Chris Broderick Life

Christopher Alan "Chris" Broderick (born March 6, 1970) is an American singer best known as the former guitarist of the American heavy metal band Megadeth.

He has worked on four of Jag Panzer's albums The Age of Mastery, Thane to the Throne (a concept album about Shakespeare's Macbeth), Mechanized Warfare, and Casting the Stones before moving to Megadeth, replacing Glen Drover.

Before joining Megadeth and later in Jag Panzer, he served as a touring guitarist for Nevermore between 2001 and 2004, then again between 2006 and 2007.

He now plays lead guitar for Act of Defiance, which he formed with ex-Megadeth bandmate Shawn Drover.

Early years

When Broderick was 11 years old, he began playing guitar. His playing styles range from metal, classical, neoclassical, and jazz. As a youth, Broderick is said to have worked 14 hours a day during his summers.

Under a tight daily routine, he played electric guitar, classical guitar, piano, and violin. It seemed more like a "chore" than for amusement at the time, according to Heard. He was a mainstay of Denver's music scene from 1988 to 1990, including guitarists Grey Haven, Industrial Eden (guitarist/lead vocalist) and Killing Time.

At the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music, he has also earned a degree in classical guitar performance. Paco de Lucia is also interested in flamenco guitar, and he also likes the style of Flamenco guitar.

Joey Tafolla left Jag Panzer for the second time in 1997, citing a lack of enthusiasm for playing heavy metal. This was a huge issue for the band. Tafolla's guitar work was both difficult and scientific, and they were unaware that no guitarists understood it. This is when Broderick was welcomed into Jag Panzer's fold and stayed with them for almost a decade. He appeared on four of the band's albums. Thane to the Throne, 1998's The Age of Mastery, 2000's Thane to the Throne (a concept album about William Shakespeare's Macbeth's play Macbeth), Mechanized Warfare, 2001's Decade of the Nail Spiked Bat and 2004's Casting the Stones, are two separate collections.

Broderick performed in the live shows of heavy metal band Nevermore from 2000 to 2004. He began touring with Nevermore after the album's release, This Godless Endeavor. He joined Megadeth in 2008.

Megadeth guitarist Glen Drover had left the band in late 2007. This was confirmed after Dave Mustaine's words were released both Glen and Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine's comments. As the evening ended, Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover brought Broderick as a possible substitute. It was then shown to Mustaine a video of Broderick playing both classical and electric guitar. Mustaine was immediately adored and contacted Broderick within minutes. Broderick was officially named as the next guitarist for Megadeth two weeks later. He made his live debut with the band on February 4, 2008 in Finland and toured with them on Gigantour 2008. Endgame (2009), their twelfth album, and their fourteenth album, Super Collider (2013), went on to record guitar parts.

Broderick was no longer able to work with Jag Panzer and Nevermore as a result of his extensive touring with Megadeth. Mustaine said that when he partnered up with Broderick, it reminded him of the time "Ozzy Osbourne first met Randy Rhoads." Mustaine said on March 8, 2009, he thinks Broderick is the best guitarist Megadeth had ever had. He was the youngest member of Megadeth's then-current line up. Broderick had to stop playing his trademark seven-string guitar and instead use a six-string guitar during his time with Megadeth. "Dave [Mustaine] felt a seven-string guitar was not an original thrash metal instrument," Broderick said. "I thought it would be better if I used six strings," Robbie said. In a Total Guitar interview, he said he would remain with Megadeth as long as they were content to have him.

Broderick released a note on his website on November 25, 2014, saying he was parting ways with Megadeth: "I'm reluctant to reveal my departure from Megadeth in favour of my own musical direction." I want to know how much I appreciate the fact that you guys have accepted and respected me as a member of Megadeth for the past seven years, but it's time for me to move forward. Dave and everyone in Megadeth are the best in the world. I'm working on a few items of my own and hoping that when they come out, they'll all love it."

After leaving Megadeth, Broderick, and former Megadeth drummer Shawn Drover, the three bandleaders formed Act of Defiance, along with ex-Scar the Martyr frontman Henry Bonner and former Shadows Fall guitarist Matt Bachand.
