Leonard Joseph "Chico" Marx (March 22, 1887 – October 11, 1961) was an American comedian, singer, and film actor.
He was a member of the Marx Brothers (with Groucho Marx, Harpo Marx, and Zeppo Marx).
The character of a charming, uneducated but crafty con artist, who wore shabby clothes and sported a curly-haired wig and Tyrolean hat, was the subject of the act.

Early years
Chico (pronounced Chicko) was born in Manhattan, New York City, on March 22, 1887. Sam Marx (called "Frenchie" throughout his lifetime) and his partner, Minnie Schoenberg Marx, were both his parents. Minnie's brother Al Shean, a vain com performer who is best known as one half of Gallagher and Shean, was born in Morocco. The Marx family was Franco-German Jews. His father, a native of Alsace, worked as a tailor, and his mother, Est Frisia, Germany, was born in Alsace.
Personal life
Chico was married twice before. In 1917, he married Betty Karp in his first marriage. Maxine (1918–2009) and her mother, Maxine. His first marriage was affected by his infidelity, which culminated in divorce in 1940; he was very close to his daughter Maxine and taught her acting lessons.
Mary De Vithas was Chico's second marriage. They married in 1958, three years before his death.
