David Shaughnessy's brother, as well as an actor and a television producer and director, is a writer. Charles Shaughnessy Career

Career

Shaughnessy first became well-known for her role on the soap opera Days of Our Lives from 1984 to 1992. Kimberly Brady, Patrick Pease's character, turned the pair into a soap supercouple and reignited enthusiasm in Days among teenage viewers in the 1980s. On Super Password in 1986, he appeared with Betty White and Bert Convy, and in 1993, Shaughnessy appeared in a Murphy Brown episode as the title character's date to the inaugural ball.

On CBS's The Nanny, Shaughnessy is also known for his portrayal of Maxwell Sheffield opposite Fran Drescher from 1993 to 1999. In Drescher's next sitcom, Living with Fran, Shaughnessy appeared regularly as her philandering but needy ex-husband Ted. After two seasons, living with Fran was discontinued on May 17, 2006.

Shaughnessy reunited with another Days of Our Lives co-star Deborah Ross, who portrayed Shane's daughter Eve Donovan in the TV film A Kiss So Deadly. Ross played the roommate of Shaughnessy's daughter (Dedee Pfeiffer); Shaughnessy's character, though married, forms an obsessive, Lolita-esque relationship with Ross. Shaughnessy's character murders Ross' character as she tries to break it off; eventually, his daughter discovers the truth.

Shaughnessy appeared (in a dual role) in the Disney Channel 2002 made-for-TV film Get a Clue. He appeared in the 2000 made-for-TV Halloween film Mom's Got a Date starring Caroline Rhea; she appeared on The Nanny in 1998 as part of a cross-over with Hollywood Squares.
