Chantal Janzen (born 15 February 1979) is a Dutch actress, singer and TV presenter.
She had parts in The Preacher, Full Moon Party and Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo and presented Idols.
She also played Belle in the Dutch Musical version of Beauty and the Beast and Jane in the Dutch Musical version of Tarzan.
She also sang a song against cancer, called "Vecht Mee" (English: Fight With Us) with Dutch rapper Yes-R.
From late 2011, she stars as Glinda in the Dutch premiere production of Wicked.
Personal life
Janzen is in a relationship with Marco Geeratz. She gave birth to their first son, James, on 23 January 2009. On 15 December 2014, they were married in London. Geeratz has three children from a prior relationship. On 30 March 2018, the couple had their second son, Bobby.
Life and career
Janzen was born in Tegelen. She studied at the Amsterdam Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. She was educated in classical, modern, jazz, and tapdance, as well as taping, playing, and musical repertoire. She appeared in several musicals, including Crazy For You, Kunt U Mij de naar Hamelen, mijnheer?, Saturday Night Fever, 42nd Street, Beauty and the Beast, Tarzan, and Petticoat's production.
She appeared on TV shows including Baantjer, Intensive Care, De Band, Meiden van De Wit, and Kinder Geen Bezwaar. She has appeared on Staatsloterij Live and the Dutch version of Idols. Janzen appeared in numerous films: De Dominee, Feestje, Deuce Bigalow: Volle Maan, Alles is the culmination of European Gigolo, Jujutes, Kicks, and the made-for-TV film Loverboy. "Achter De Sterren," the film's title song, was released in December 2002.
In 2002, Janzen received the John Kraaijkamp Musical Award for her role in Saturday Night Fever. In 2005, she received a National Award for Best actress in a supporting role for the musical Crazy For You. She was nominated for Best Female Lead in 2006 as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, and she was nominated for the same award in 2007 for her role as Jane in the musical Tarzan. She had to postpone her participation in the musical Tarzan from September 2008 to April 2009. Bente van den Brand had her replace her. After Tarzan, she appeared in the Disney Musical Sing-Along. In 2010, Janzen can be seen in the musical Petticoat. It's an original Dutch musical, written especially for her. In the Dutch version of the Broadway musical Wicked, she appeared as Glinda in Petticoat's role.
Janzen resigned from her role with the Dutch TV network AVRO in 2011 and signed a RTL deal. According to her, judging the award for the fourth year in a row would make her appearance seem cheap. In 2019, Janzen was one of the world's best in the American television show The World's Best. She was confirmed as one of three presenters of the Eurovision Song Contest 2020 in Rotterdam alongside Edsilia Rombley and Jan Smit on December 4th, but the competition itself would be cancelled in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and replaced with Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light (which was jointly exhibited by Janzen, Rombley, and Smit) which was held on May 16, 2020.
