Early life and education
Van Graas grew up in Tuitjenhorn, where she attended the Sint Barbaraschool, a Roman Catholic elementary school. Her father was a tutor, and her mother was a homemaker. She rode the college prep track at the Christian High School in Alkmaar, riding 15 kilometers (9 miles) per way to and from home every day.
