Early life and education
Celina Jade was born in Hong Kong to American kung fu actor Roy Horan and Chinese mother Christina Hui. She attended a local Chinese school from kindergarten to high school, and she is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. She learned archery, shooting, and Taekwondo from her father growing up. She left Hong Kong for New Jersey at the age of 14, but she returned to Hong Kong shortly after and attended Island School. She later attended the London School of Economics. She received her First Class Honours in BSc Management, and she ranked at the top of her class.
Personal life
Jade is a vegetarian, a daily meditator, and a health advocate for combating climate change. Jade began her journey as a vegetarian in 2012 and worked hand in hand with Christian Gerard Mongendre in opening HOME - Eat to Live in Hong Kong to promote healthy eating and healthier lifestyles. In 2017, the restaurant was closed.
Jade has been in a friendship with Han Geng, a Chinese actor, singer, and former member of South Korean boy band Super Junior, since February 2018. In New Zealand, the two couples married on December 31. Jade gave birth to their first child, a daughter, in September 2022.
Career
In 2007, Jade's acting career began in Hong Kong and China. In her first film, Legendary Assassin, she appeared as the leading lady alongside Wu Jing. She appeared on Chinese television shows including TVB, CCTV, and Hunan TV; and All's Well Ends Well; and Love Connected. Russell Crowe & Lucy Liu directed her first role in The Man with the Iron Fists, Universal Pictures' first film. In the Square Enix game Sleeping Dogs, she lent her voice as the character, Not Ping. As lead actress alongside Asian actor Peter Ho, she also started filming her first web series Wish Upon a Star. In The CW series Arrow, a TV Show based on the DC Comics Green Arrow, Jade was cast to play Shado (Oliver Queen's martial arts tutor & girlfriend). She appeared in eighteen episodes over the first two seasons before returning as Shado's twin sister Mei for two episodes of season three and one in season 4. In 2015, Jade appeared as the leading lady in an Asian action film starring Tony Jaa, Dolph Lundgren, and Ron Perlman. She was cast in the Indie film "April Flowers" just short of being born. Jade returns to Wu Jing to appear in the Chinese franchise Wolf Warrior sequel starring China's Zhang Han & Frank Grillo. Jade achieved an Asia-wide singing competition, resulting in a record deal with Japanese producer Tetsu Komuro at age 14. They released two EPs, Good News Bad News, and "Kwong Ying Zi Gan." At the G8 Summit in Okinawa, Japan, she appeared alongside Namie Amuro in front of President Bill Clinton and other world leaders in July 2000. With the song "Kwong Ying Zi Gan," she had her first number one hit at the age of 15.
