Early life and education
Cora was born in Jackson, Mississippi, the daughter of Virginia Lee (née Brothers) and Spiro "Pete" Cora. Her father was of Greek descent (her paternal grandparents were from Skopelos, Greece). Both her grandfather and father were restaurateurs. When she was 15 years old, she brought a business plan to her father and grandfather, knowing they might help her.
She graduated in 1995 at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, after receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology and Biology from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Personal life
Cora was the Grand Marshal for Hal and Mal's St. Paddy's Parade in her hometown of Jackson, Mississippi, in March 2006.
In 2012, Cora was jailed for driving under the influence. Following a collision in which she rear-ended the car in front of her, the other driver told the officers that Cora was inebriated. Cora was arrested and charged with a breathalyzer test that revealed her BAC readings to be.20 and.19, over twice the legal minimum of.08. She pleaded no contest to the allegations, was sentenced to three years in jail, $2,386 in fines, and a suspended 120-day jail term. "I deeply regret my decision to drive the evening after my designated driver became unavailable," she wrote in a tweet after her arrest. I learned a valuable lesson from this experience and have full responsibility for my behavior. This will never happen again."
Cora married Jennifer, her long-time partner, in June 2013, and the couple have four sons together via in vitro fertilization. They applied for divorce in 2015, which was finalized in 2016.
Cora first met recording producer Nicole Ehrlich in 2017. They married in Islamorada, Florida, on April 21, 2018. Nicole Ehrlich, a 2021 native of Cora, applied for divorce from Cora on April 26, 2021.
