Early life
Caleb Johnson was born in Asheville, North Carolina, on April 23, 1991, to David and Tamra Johnson. His mother works as an accountant, while his father works with Buncombe County's Parks and Recreation Department, but both have backgrounds in music. He attended Clyde A. Erwin High School in Asheville and graduated in 2009. He participated in athletics, joined the drama club, and chorus, as well as doing some mission work and some volunteer work at his church, Calvary Baptist.
When Josh Sawyer, a high school friend, asked him to be the lead singer, Johnson became interested in singing around age 17. Creedence Clearwater Revival's first performance in his high school was "Fortunate Son." When he was in high school with a band called Gorgon, he appeared in a talent competition. Chris Cornell is his most influential musical influence, according to him, Rush is his favorite band.
Music career
Caleb Johnson first appeared in Rock Bottom, North Carolina, on June 30, 2009. Josh Sawyer, a year ago, joined Elijah Hooker in a rock band and became its lead vocalist. Sawyer is the band's lead guitarist; other members of the band include Brian Turner on Keyboard, Shawn Foerst on bass, and Colten Emery on drums.
In June 2013, Elijah Hooker's self-titled debut album Elijah Hooker debuted. "Happiest Man" was the lead track on the 10-track album.
In four years, Johnson auditioned for American Idol three times. In 2011, he auditioned for the tenth season of American Idol. He was accepted into Hollywood Week and was a part of James Durbin's Hollywood group. Johnson auditioned for the 11th season in 2012 and made it to the Top 42. He had trouble with "Old Time Rock and Roll" and was disqualified at the top 24 pick. He took time off from auditioning to enhance his stage presence over the next year.
Johnson appeared for the 13th time in 2014 and made it to the top 20 for the third time. He was voted by America into the top five male contestants in the semi-finals, securing his spot in the season's top 13. Every week, Johnson received positive feedback from the judges, had good shows, and was the only finalist in the season to never land in the bottom three before reaching the finale. Johnson was named the champion by the end of the season.
Johnson debuted on American Idol right after being accepted on the continent. Johnson collaborated with musicians like Howard Benson, Aloe Blacc, Brian Howes, Blair Daly, and James Michael on the album, which was released in three weeks. On August 12, 2014, a witness was released.
Johnson began working on his second album independently after parting ways with his record company in late 2015. The album was supposed to be released in 2016, but it didn't come out. On February 9, 2016, the lead single, "Holding On," was announced. On April 7, 2016, a second single, "Hanging with the Band," was released.
In 2018, Johnson appeared on "Three Kings & I" during Trans-Siberian Orchestra's winter tour.
Caleb Johnson & The Ramblin Saints released an album on June 14, 2019. "The Ramblin Saints is my band," Johnson said on the album. We decided to change the band name to my name, which would bring it more into the rock direction. As a starting point, we used people like Bob Seeger and the Silver Bullet Band or Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers as a model. The performers are from Nashville. "I have two separate bands, a studio band I use based in Nashville, and my touring band is based in Ashville." Johnson produced the album on his own, newly formed label, Big Johnson Records.
Mountain Mojo Vol. is Johnson's next album. On June 18, 2021, the first 100 people were born. Jason Bonham, Tyler Bryant, Josh Sawyer, Audley Freed, Tony Lucido, Damon Johnson, Gale Mayes, Devonne Michele, and Angela Primm have all contributed to the album.
