Bryan Talbot Career

Career

Talbot began his comedies in the late 1960s, extending his cartooning career into the underground comix scene. In 1969, his first illustration appeared in Mallorn, the British Tolkien Society's publication, followed by a weekly strip in his college newspaper. Since graduating from college, he continued in the industry, releasing Brainstorm Comix, the first three of which formed The Chester P. Hackenbush Trilogy, which was a character developed by Alan Moore as Chester Williams for Swamp Thing.

In 1978, Talbot founded The Adventures of Luther Arkwright. It was first published in Near Myths and has continued to appear in other journals over the years. Dark Horse Comics eventually collected it into a single volume. It is one of the first British graphic novels, as well as When the Wind Blows. He created art for three of 2000 AD's flagship serials, as well as occasional strips for Judge Dredd. One bad boy's The Tale of a Bad Rat explores a girl's recovery from sexual abuse in childhood.

Talbot began selling in the United States in the 1990s, mainly for DC Comics, on titles such as Hellblazer, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, and Dead Boy Detectives. Talbot co-produced with Neil Gaiman on The Sandman and provided art for the "Fables & Reflections," "A Game of You," and "Worlds' End" story arcs. He drew The Nazz limited series, which was written by Tom Veitch and co-produced with Tom's brother Rick Veitch on Teknophage, one of a number of mini-series he drew for Tekno Comix. The Magic: The Gathering collectible card game has been illustrated by Talbot. Bill Willingham's Fables has been illustrated by him as well as returning to the Luther Arkwright universe with the title "Heart of Empire."

He published the graphic novel Metronome, an existential, textless poetic poem written under the pseudonym Véronique Tanaka in 2006. In 2009, he confessed to being the author. Talbot turned down an invitation to appear as Tanaka for an in-store signing of the work.

Alice was born in Sunderland in 2007, which details Lewis Carroll's, Alice Liddell, and the Sunderland and Wearside area. Cherubs!'s author wrote and drew the layouts, which he describes as "an irreverent fast-paced supernatural comedy-adventure."

Talbot was announced in 2019 that it was the latest instalment in the Arkwright series tentatively titled The Legend of Luther Arkwright, which would be published in 2021.
