David Chester Gibbons (born 14 April 1949) is an English comics writer, essayist, and occasionally letterer.
He is best known for his writings with writer Alan Moore, including the miniseries Watchmen and the Superman story "For the Man Who Has Everything."
He was an artist for 2000 AD, for which he created a substantial body of work from its first issue in 1977.
Early life
Gibbons was born on April 14th, 1949, at Forest Gate Hospital in London, to Chester, a town planner, and Gladys, a secretary. At the age of seven, he began reading comic books. He illustrating his own comic strips as a self-taught artist. Gibbons started off as a building surveyor but later became a letter writer for IPC Media in the United Kingdom. He left his surveyor work to concentrate on his comics work.
