Career

West began his voice acting career in 1979 after graduating from college with a degree.

He appeared in Jasper T. Jowls and Pasqually in Chuck E. Cheese's animatronic stage show in 1987, and he remained as the characters for ten years until 1998.

In 1988, West became Barney's first voice work as Barney on the direct-to-video pilot series Barney and the Backyard Gang. Barney & Friends, Barney's Great Adventure (1998), for CBS and NBC primetime specials, for educational games, and "personal appearances," he continued voicing Barney in Barney & Friends. On The Today Show, LIVE, he also appeared in interviews. Regis & Kathie Lee, Oprah, Oprah, The Phil Donahue Show, John & Leeza (Japan) From Hollywood, Marilu, and international appearances.

He stopped voicing Barney from 1996 to 2002, citing that he wanted "new adventures" in his life. David Franks, Duncan Brannan, who met him through their association, Tim Dever and Dean Wendt with Carey Stinson temporarily replaced him as the character's body actor. However, West's pre-recorded voice could still be heard in A Day in the Park with Barney at Universal Studios Florida until the attraction's closing in February 2021, as it was recorded in the mid 1990s due to his retirement. In one of HIT Entertainment's The Little Big Club live stage shows until October 12, 2022, there are also some other archival recordings of his voice.

I Love You, You Hate Me is back in Peacock's documentary sequel film I Love You, You Hate Me.

West has also provided voices for TV and radio ads for Pepsi, Bud Light (English and Spanish), Coors Light, Frito-Lay, KFC, Armour Meats, Circuit City, Texas Monthly Magazine, and Texas Lottery.

In addition, West has worked as a creative producer, writer, producer, and director in numerous radio and television commercials.

West now works as a graphic designer for film and television.
