Audrey Landers (born Audrey Hamburg, 1956) is an American actress and singer best known for her appearances as Afton Cooper on the television series Dallas and her role as Val Clarke in the 1985 film version of A Chorus Line.

Early years

Landers were born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Landers began acting and singing in community theater shows in New York State at the age of 9. She appeared in Oh Dad, Poor Dad... at Elmwood Playhouse in Nyack, NY, in January 1970. Landers was first discovered with a country song that she wrote and performed at the age of twelve, leading to a Nashville recording deal with Epic Records, a performance on The Merv Griffin Show, and a year-long role in The Secret Storm.

She appeared on the daytime drama Somerset and studied music at the Juilliard School in New York City, while majoring in psychology at Columbia University. Judy, her sister, made her debut in The Tennessee Stallion (1978).

Personal life

Audrey is the sister of actress Judy Landers, and she has appeared in many productions, including multiple episodes of The Love Boat, Circus Island, and Ghost Writer, a Ruth Landers film. In a non-nude pictorial of Playboy's January 1983 issue, Audrey and Judy Landers were on the front page and in a non-nude pictorial.

In May 1988, landers married businessman Donald Berkowitz. Adam and Daniel, the twins, were born in 1993.

Landers eventually moved to Los Angeles, where she landed the role of Afton Cooper on Dallas, which she starred in 1981, 1984, and a further six episodes in 1989 for a total of 84 episodes. J.R. Returns (1996), she appeared in the television film Dallas: J.R. Returns. In the series, Audrey's character was a nightclub singer, performing all of Audrey's songs. Landers had already released two singles in the 1970s, but she released Little River (1983), her first album during her stay in Dallas. She has since released over a dozen albums, mainly for European record companies, having written the majority of her hits.

She left Dallas in 1984 after being cast by director Richard Attenborough as Val Clarke in the film version of A Chorus Line (1985). In 2013, she reprised her role as Afton Cooper in several episodes of Dallas' second season revival.

She appeared in numerous television series, including The Dukes of Hazzard, Fantasy Island, The Love Boat, and Battlestar Galactica, before moving to Dallas. Match Game-Hollywood Squares Hour was held in 1979 and 1984. She appeared in Jackie Collins' Lucky Chances, a television miniseries. She appeared on ABC daytime program One Life to Live from 1990 to 1992, playing Charlotte Hesser, the eldest daughter of upstate Pennsylvania mob boss Carlo Hesser. She was also a regular visitor on Pyramid's 1980s iterations, including leading a contestant to a $100,000 win in 1986.

Landers created The Huggabug Club in 1996, where she wrote the scripts but also wrote the 250+ original songs in the series, taking inspiration from her young children. Ruth Landers, her partner (and mother) created the show and donated it to Public Television for its 5-year run. Circus Island, a Ruth Landers production, co-wrote and co-directed the family adventure film in 2006. Landers and her mother have also developed the Landers STAR Collection, a fashion line that is gaining international recognition via QVC UK, Canada, Germany, and the United States.
