Astor Pantaleón Piazzolla (Spanish pronunciation: [pjamsola]; Italian pronunciation: [pjat ts?lla]; March 11, 1921 – July 4, 1992) was an Argentine tango guitarist, bandoneon player, and arranger. * His oeuvre turned the traditional tango into a contemporary style named nuevo tango, which incorporates elements of jazz and classical music. * He performed his own compositions with a variety of ensembles, as a virtuoso bandoneonist. Piazzolla was described by American music critic Stephen Holden in 1992 as "the world's best composer of tango music."
