Andrew Groves Career

Career

Groves is Professor of Fashion Design at the University of Westminster and is the director of the Westminster Menswear Archive. He served as the course director of the BA Fashion Design course from 2003 to 2019. Christopher Bailey, Stuart Vevers, Markus Lupfer, Liam Hodges, Ashley Williams, Claire Barrow, and Roberta Einer are among the course's alumni. He is the editor of the Westminster Menswear Archive, which he founded in 2015. It contains over 2000 examples of British menswear, including clothing from Craig Green, Joe Casely-Hayford, Kim Jones, Aitor Throup, Nigel Cabourn, and Meadham Kirchhoff.

He founded the MA Menswear program in 2016, the world's first and only two-year menswear course, which also appears at London Fashion Week Menswear.

The University of Westminster's Bachelor of Fashion Design course became the first undergraduate course to appear on schedule at London Fashion Week in 2018.

He co-curated In 2019, the Westminster Menswear Archive's largest exhibition dedicated to menswear, which included over 170 items from the last 120 years of British menswear.

Groves is a member of the British Fashion Council's Colleges Council, which advises the British Fashion Council on education policy.

Before being Alexander McQueen's head assistant, I spent time in 1996, and later on under the name 'Jimmy Jumble'. He graduated from Central Saint Martins' MA Fashion Design course in 1997 and established his company, Andrew Groves, which was on display at London Fashion Week from 1997 to 2000. He attracted people's attention and raised his notoriety thanks to his confrontational themes of his collections at London Fashion Week. Ourselves Alone," his first scheduled display at LFW in February 1998, was titled "Weselves Alone" (translated from Gaelic "Sinn Féin") and referred to The Troubles in Ireland, combining the colors of the competing groups of Irish unionists and Irish republicans. The models wore orange sashes, grey suits, and charred green taffeta, with one model setting herself on fire during the exhibition. Crucifixes that were not on display were 30-foot burning crucifixes.

In September 1998, he appeared in "Cocaine Nights," a term coined after J.G. The models were strolled on a catwalk sprinkled with sugar-like cocaine, with a model dressed in razor blades, and also inspired by the film Face/Off. Bill Clinton, then President of the United States, had slammed the fashion industry for glamorizing opioid use, so this was seen as a deliberate provocation.

Groves created costumes for Robbie Williams, Kylie Minogue, Suede, and The Spice Girls in addition to his runway collections. He has worked as a freelance fashion design consultant for fashion design firms in the United Kingdom and Japan, as well as as a design consultant for firms such as Nokia, Wedgwood, and The Coca Cola Company.

The Victoria & Albert Museum's Textiles and Fashion collection, as well as the Fashion Museum in Bath, have examples of Groves designs on display.

RAF doctor jailed for child sex offences against girls as young as 13 is struck off

www.dailymail.co.uk, January 15, 2024
An 'completely corrupt' RAF doctor has been charged with child sex crimes against girls as young as 13. When Andrew Groves was serving as a Wing Commander at a Royal Air Force station, he mistakenly communicated with two young girls 18 years ago. The deluded' doctor, according to a medical tribunal, had a 'continued' sexual concern in children and refused to accept responsibility for his behavior. Groves was arrested by Lincolnshire Police in 2018 and charged with two counts of attempting to induce a child to engage in sexual conduct, which he denied. He was sentenced to three years in prison for the three criminal offences last year and has since been barred from the medical field for five months.
