Amy Kuney, known professionally as AMES, is an American singer, songwriter, and musician.

Early life

Kuney began piano lessons at the age of four and participated in piano recitals and church performances growing up. She wrote her first song at the age of 12. When she was 13, Kuney's father moved the family from their home in Oklahoma to Honduras to live as missionaries after he saw a video highlighting the destruction of Hurricane Mitch. Kuney started playing guitar when she taught herself guitar chords off of a poster her dad bought from Wal-Mart after a trip to the United States at the age of 16.

"All Downhill From Here," Kuney's song, which she co-wrote with Tim Myers, opened the season 5 finale of One Tree Hill (TV series) on May 19, 2008. The song was also included in the film "Catfish." The Blacklist (NBC), Looking (HBO), Hemlock Grove (Netflix), So You Think You Can Dance (FOX), So You Think You Can Dance (FOX), and advertisements for Macy's, Kleenex, and Pandora are among other places.

In the summer of 2008, Kuney opened for the Veronicas.

Damien Rice invited Kuney to tour Iceland with him after she heard his cover of his song, The Blower's Daughter, on YouTube.

"Bird's Eye View," Kuney's debut full-length album, was released on August 12, 2008.

On "The Invisible DJ LnA Music Tee," the company launched online and in Ron Herman stores starting in May 2009, LnA Clothing featured Kuney's "Simple Things." The shirt's owners were given a link to download all of the songs on the LnA website.

Kuney opened for Gavin Rossdale as part of Donate Life's Concert Series at The Grove at Farmers Market presented by Palm, Inc. and the Palm Pregnancy Center, hosted by KBIG-FM.

On their September 21, 2010, episode, "I Can't See You, But I Know You Are Here," One Tree Hill featured Kuney's song "Hope A Little Harder."

Following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, which was announced on November 30, 2010, her song, "Gasoline Rainbows," was included on a compilation album titled Gasoline Rainbows, also benefiting the Gulf of Mexico. Among others, the compilation featured tracks from LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, Silversun Pickups, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. In the fourth season of So You Think You Can Dance Canada, "Gasoline Rainbows" was also included. Stacey Tookey choreographed the dance, while dancers Geisha Chin and Joey Arrigo performed.

Amy Kuney formed MYPET, an electronic band formed by Ray Brady and Elmo Lovano in 2013. In 2015, she was given the ASCAP Sammy Cahn Songwriting Award for her album "The World." John Mayer and Lori McKenna were among the past winners. She signed a publishing contract with Kobalt Music in the same year and began releasing music under the name "Ames" and writing for other artists.

Michelle Branch released the album Hopeless Romantic, which featured eight songs co-written by Amy Kuney, including the title track, which was released as the sole single on February 3, 2017.

Kelly Clarkson co-written "Move You" as a promo single from her forthcoming album Meaning of Life on September 7, 2017. Said album will be released on October 27, 2017, which will include Kuney's second co-written song "Slow Dance."

In January 2018, AMES announced Mateo Sound, a new record label, on January 18. Since taking a three-year break to write for other writers, she rebranded as AMES and began recording her new EP, "My Name is AMES."

On August 6, 2018, AMES performed her first concert as AMES, "Mama It's Me," "Hold On," "Picture In My Mind," "Picture In My Heart," "Mama It's Me," "Picture In My Thought," and a recap of Kelly Clarkson's "Slow Dance." Following the show's success, Kuney announced a short stay at the venue, which featured 4 shows on January and February 2019.

"Hold On" was the EP's debut single on the EP, and Mateo Sound unveiled it on September 27, leading to positive feedback. Several of Kuney's peers, including Michelle Branch and Molly Kate Kestner, as well as many other online publications such as Nylon Magazine and music blog Indie Shuffle, were all quick to pick up the single artwork as well as the article headline.

On October 26, the singer's second single off the EP "Picture In My Mind," as well as a Donnie Darko themed live performance premiered on Billboard Pride on October 31, 2018.

She performed songs off of The Hotel Cafe on January 4, 11, 18, 19 and February 1 on January 1, 18, 2019.

On February 15, the next single, "Old Hero," was based on true events in her life of friends who gave their lives to help others. This coincided with a guest article published on Milk's Gender Diaries.

"Mama, It's Me" is the new single from the forthcoming EP, and it's a tender ballad to a worried mother who is reassured that her child is grown, safe, and loving. The six track "My Name Is AMES" EP dropped a week later on April 5 with the additions of new tracks "Between" and "Curious." Paste Magazine's live interview and performance broadcast on YouTube, which was aided by a publicity tour in New York. In addition, she'll be seen in the studio for Logo's "Mama, It's Me" and "Hold On."

Ames collaborated with Tim Myers on a project dubbed "AROWS" by Position Music in 2019. Songs from the EP have been featured on a third season episode of Siesta Key and a worldwide Samsung Galaxy commercial since the project was announced.

Adam Lambert, Kuney co-wrote the song "Overglow," which will be released on the Velvet Side A EP on September 27, 2019 followed by the full album debut on March 20, 2020. On Velvet Side A - The Live Sessions, a live in-studio recording of the track will be available on January 20, 2020. In late 2019, the song was included in Lambert's live set lists.

Kuney's album "Sister Ray" was also co-written by Kuney and was released as a single on September 25, 2021, ahead of the full album's debut on February 11, 2022. In an eighth season episode of Love Island, the track will be included.

Kuney joined the Herb Alpert School of Music at UCLA in the fall of 2021 as a Professor of Songwriting.

Ames' single "Hymn For Her" was released ahead of Valentine's Day on February 11, 2022, the following year. Kuney also created I Amethyst, a side project to experiment with new, more difficult emotions with the first single, "Your Queen," which was released on Friday, May 13, 2022.
