Early life
Miller was born in Rome, Italy, to American parents Margo and John Winn Miller. In Olympia, Washington, her father is the former publisher of The Olympian newspaper.
Miller migrated often during her youth, primarily in Lexington, Kentucky, before starting high school in State College, Pennsylvania, and finishing at Maclay School in Tallahassee, Florida.
Miller attended Boston University for a brief period before enrolling Rhodes College in Rhodes College and then moving to the University of Florida in Gainesville. She is a member of Kappa Delta sorority and was featured in a Kappa Delta newsletter called The Angelos.
Miller dropped out of college and moved to Hollywood in 2006 to pursue her acting career full time. She has studied voice and tap, jazz, and modern dance. She is a mezzo-soprano who also plays the piano and the guitar. She is fluent in Spanish and French.

In 2012, Miller married comedian and actor Adam Nee. The couple revealed in January 2019 that they were filing for divorce. Miller now lives in Los Angeles.
