Alfredo Angulo Career

Amateur career

He qualified for the Olympic Games by placing second at the 1st AIBA American 2004 Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Tijuana, Mexico, where he finished in second place. Angulo lost by a score of 38:23 to Andy Lee at the Olympics. Timothy Bradley, the former WBO Welterweight champion, also wins an amateur match over Angulo. Angulo's amateur career came to an end with a record of 80-15.

Professional career

Alfredo Angulo, an all-action fighter who began in Arizona, became a member of the University of Arizona. Many boxing analysts believe the Mexican is the next Light Middleweight World Champion. He defeated Richard Gutierrez in five rounds on May 17, 2008 to lift his career record to 13 wins, 10 by way of knockout. Angulo defeated Ukraine's Andrey Tsurkan (26-3, 17 KO) on October 4, 2008. Angulo was adamant, with over 100 punches per round averaged. Referee Tony Krebs stepped in and stopped Tsurkan in the 11th round. On February 14, 2009, Angulo was scheduled to face former champion Ricardo Mayorga. However, Mayorga resigned ten days before the fight after demanding a larger purse. Angulo defeated former NABO light Welterweight champion Cosme Rivera as a replacement and beat him by a fifth-round technical knockout.

Angulo won the interim WBO light middleweight title in November 2009.

Despite finishing off Yorgey in the third round, Angulo had a knockdown in the second round while landing 58 of 108 punches, according to CompuBox. As he pulled Yorgey against the cords, a strong right hand did the first harm. However, Angulo did not let him off the hook and pressed away for the knockout victory.

In the 11th round of their match on April 24, 2010, Angulo knocked out Joel Julio. Joel Julio was stopped midway through the 11th round, winning the WBO interim 154-pound title. After losing his only match against Kermit Cintron last May, Angulo secured his third straight KO victory. In the eighth round, Angulo was marginally more aggressive than counterpunching Julio, who was also attacking and peppering the Colombian with combinations, including a brutal sequence of blows.

Angulo defeated former WBA Super Welterweight Champion Joachim "Ti-Joa" Alcine (32-1, 19 KOs) of Montreal on July 17, 2010. Angulo received the vacant WBC Continental Americas Light Middleweight title.

Joseph Gomez was fired by Angulo for his first fight in 13 months on August 20, 2011. In the first round, he stopped the journeyman from entering New Mexico with a straight right-left hook to the midsection and a cuffing right cross to the back of the head. Angulo's visa issues, which barred him from serving in the United States, prevented him from participating in combat, which made the beef with Shaw a moot point.

Angulo lost by split-decision to Sergio Mora on April 7, 2018. Mora's two judges scored it 78-74, while the third had Angulo winning the game, 75-77.

Angulo defeated Evert Bravo on April 20, 2019 at Angulo's fifth birthday. Angulo was defeated in the second round by a landslide.

Angulo met Peter Quillin on September 21, 2019. Quillin was ranked #4 by the IBF and #14 by the WBC at super middleweight. Despite being the underdog in the fight, Angulo boxed well and was able to annoy Quillin on several occasions. Angulo won on two of the scorecards, 97-93 and 96-94, while the third judge had Quillin winning the fight, 96-94.
