Jose Ramirez Career

Amateur career

Ramrez took the National Amateur Boxing Championships in the United States at the United States Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He's also a Jr. Golden Gloves National Champion, two-time Olympic National Champion, and a two-time Ringside World Champion. His family now lives in Avenal, California, where he lived all his life. Jose qualified to represent the United States in the 2012 Olympic Games by defeating 2008 Olympian Raynell Williams 21-16 in the finals of the 2012 United States Olympic Boxing Trials. At the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, Ramrez defeated Rachid Azzedine and then lost to Fazliddin Gaibnazarov.

Professional career

Ramrez became a professional in 2012 and has been regarded as a top Rank fighter by Bob Arum since the same year.

Ramrez won the vacant WBC Continental Americas light welterweight title after compiling a perfect 15-0 record on December 5, 2015. He will continue to defend the title a total of four times.

Ramrez won the vacant WBC super lightweight title on March 17, 2018, defeating Amir Imam by unanimous decision, 117-111, 113-113. Ramrez had a bad eye on the Imam's right eye and received slews of punches throughout the war.

Ramrez defeated Antonio Orozco, then #3 by the WBC at light welterweight, at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, in his next fight. The defending champion managed to knock his opponent twice, once in the fourth round and twice in the eighth round. Despite the two beatings, Orozco gave his best and even became the aggressor at times. In the end, Ramrez was clearly defeated, with all three judges deciding in favour of the champion 119-107.

Ramrez defeated Jose Zepeda, who was ranked #14 in the WBC at light welterweight, in his next title defense. Zepeda was leading early rounds of the competition. In the fourth round, Ramrez began to take over the fight. Ramrez ended the fight good, particularly in the last 20 seconds, unleashing power shots on Zepeda. Ramrez was able to win by majority vote in a very competitive contest.

Ramrez fought undefeated WBO light welterweight champion Maurice Hooker in a unification fight on July 27, 2019. Ramrez was first able to dismiss Hooker in the first round, and despite replays proving that Ramrez had stepped on Hooker's foot, it was declared a official knockdown. The match slowed as the rounds progressed, favoring Hooker. Ramrez managed to the chin with a left hand to the head and then a big left to the head, sending Hooker reeling against the wires. The referee called the match to stop with 1:48 to go in the round, giving Ramrez the technical knockout win. Hooker was helpless.

Ramrez defended his WBC and WBO titles against former WBC champion Viktor Postol, winning a majority decision with scores of 116-112, 114-114.

Ramrez attempted to become the first undisputed champion of Mexican descent in Paradise, Nevada, in a showdown for the undisputed light welterweight championship. Ramrez was defeated twice in the sixth and seventh rounds, both times by Taylor's left hand, and finally lost by unanimous vote with all three judges scoring the match 114-112 in favor of Taylor.

Ramrez will face former two-weight world champion José Pedraza on February 5, 2022, in the main event of an ESPN broadcast Top Rank card, which was announced on October 30, 2021. Pedraza became sick with flu-like symptoms after the bout was postponed until March 4. Ramirez won the battle by unanimous vote in a competitive contest, with all judges scoring it 116-112.

José Ramrez, the Cleveland Guardians All-Star third baseman, had his MLB suspension for fighting with Tim Anderson of Chicago. On Saturday, the team went from three games to two. During Cleveland's series in Tampa Bay, Ramrez, who knocked Anderson to the ground with a bizarre, well-placed punch, will serve the suspension this weekend. 'Not having him for ten minutes isn't fun, let alone two (games),' Guardians boss Terry Francona said before Saturday's match with the Rays. "But I'm glad it's two rather than three rather than three." This morning, we received the final decision.'

Tim Anderson: Yasmani Grandal sacked him in a bust-up with a colleague less than a month before the Guardians brawl was suspended

Anderson, 30, was suspended for his role in the brawl with the Guardians, which erupted when he clashed with Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez on Monday. Anderson was also involved in a violent confrontation with teammate Grandal earlier this summer, according to Shane Riordan, an executive producer for the Parkins & Spiegel show on WSCR, branded as 670 The Score FM.

Jose Ramirez says he has attempted to apologize to Tim Anderson over the Guardians-White Sox brawl, but the Chicago shortstop seems to be dismissing him

www.dailymail.co.uk, August 7, 2023
'I've been attempting to reach him directly and apologize, but I haven't received an answer,' Cleveland's third baseman said in a tweet shortly after being suspended by the league for three games.' As always, I want to apologize for my behavior, but my aim is to help my team win and advance to the playoffs.' Anderson, who was knocked out during Saturday's big brawl at Progress Field in Cleveland, posted a cryptic tweet after the fight, in which he said, 'keep kicking on me while I'm down.'
