Alaric Tay (born Tay Liang Hoong, Alaric on June 26, 1979) is a Singaporean director, producer, and actor.
Early life
Tay was born in Singapore and raised in a strict Christian family. Tay gained a degree in film studies from Griffith University in Australia, and then went on to pursue entertainment as a career of his choice.
At the age of seventeen, he began his career as an actor in the film and television industry. He was given a supporting role in That's the Way I Like It, a made-in-Singapore feature film that was originally selected by Harvey Weinstein in 1998.
Acting career
Tay has played a variety of roles over the years, including leads in tele-movies such as Ang Tao Mui, Adventures of Holden Heng, and a well-received comedic role in the dramedy, Money. Alaric appeared on a number of television shows including The Yang Sisters Season 1 & 2 on Mediacorp's Channel 5, as well as Random Acts, which were broadcast on Arts Central. His amusing physical appearance has spawned shows like Whizzes of the Void Deck. In addition, he appeared in The Great Wall of China on Lion TV and in the role of Daniel in the film Carrot Cake Conversations.

Film-making career
Tay is also an award-winning filmmaker, with various performance credits to his name. When We Were Bengs received three awards at the 2007 ReelHeART International Film Festival for Best Experimental Film, Best Sound, and Best Editing, his short documentary Journey of Change has received critical acclaim from audiences in Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and the United States, according to actor Sam Carter.
Final Defect, Tay's first sci-fi action film, was released in 2011. Jimmy Taenaka and veteran actor Janice Koh star in the 12-minute short film, a sci-fi tale about the risks of playing God.
In 2018, Alaric co-produced Zombiepura with film director Jacen Tan of Hosaywood Studios, JAB films. It's Alaric's first big role in a horror themed film, and Zombiepura is set to premiere in Singapore in late October 2018.
