Ajay Kumar Sharma pronunciation (born in Delhi on April 3rd) is a former Indian cricketer. Sharma, a prolific run-maker in first-class cricket, was mainly for Delhi, scoring over 10,000 runs at a high rate of 67.46.
Given a minimum qualification of 50 wickets, only three players (Sir Donald Bradman, Vijay Merchant, and George Headley) have beat this average in first-class cricket.
Life ban
His career came to an end in 2000 when he was banned from cricket for life after being implicated in a match-fixing controversy.
Sharma was cleared of all charges connected to match fixing by a Delhi district court in September 2014, and the BCCI has requested him to participate in the board's activities and those of its employees.
He retired from active cricket and is now invested in multiple brands of laundry and dry-cleaning business UClean, both in Delhi NCR and Punjab.
Domestic career
Sharma set a new 31 centuries in the Ranji Trophy, finishing second only to Vijay Merchant in this competition. He was only the third player to score over 1000 runs in a Ranji Trophy season in 1996-97. In four of them, he participated in six Ranji Trophy finals for Delhi scoring centuries, but only twice did well (1985–86, 1991–92). Sharma has also competed in the Duleep Trophy for North Zone.
International career
Sharma played just one Test match for India against the West Indies in January 1988, despite his domestic scoring record. From 1988 to 1993, he appeared in 31 One Day Internationals for India.
He scored back-to-back fifties against New Zealand in December 1988, but not out again, except for a 59 not out (his highest ODI score) against Zimbabwe in March 1993. He was out for 424 runs at a batting average of 20.19. In October 1989, Sharma took 15 wickets using his left-arm spin against Australia, a best of 3/41.
