Abbey Lincoln Life

Anna Marie Wooldridge (August 6, 1930 – August 14, 2010), also known as Abbey Lincoln, was an American jazz singer, songwriter, and actress.

She was a civil rights campaigner from the 1960s.

Lincoln's career was not limited to making deeply felt presentations of standards but rather being able to write and perform her own material.

Personal life

Lincoln's daughter, Maxine, from a previous marriage, appeared on several of Lincoln's albums from 1962 to 1970.

Lincoln died on August 14, 2010, in Manhattan, eight days after her 80th birthday. After suffering deteriorating health ever since undergoing open-heart surgery in 2007, her brother, David Wooldridge, told The New York Times that she died in a Manhattan nursing home. There was no reason given for the death. She was cremated, but her remains were scattered.
