Early life
Ashton was born in Hackney, London, on July 25, 1984. She is the eldest of three children born to a Ugandan mother, Victoria, and Paul Ashton, an English father. She attended Anna Scher Theatre School from the age of six and was a member of the National Youth Theatre. She obtained her diploma in acting at the Manchester School of Theatre. Paulo Muwanga, her maternal grandfather, was once President and Prime Minister of Uganda.
