Yvie Oddly Career

Career

Oddly began her career as Avon Eve, appearing for the first time at the Denver, CO. Center before going to perform at Broadways Bar in a show hosted by Mile High Pinky Pie.

After seeing Sharon Needles on the fourth season of RuPaul's Drag Race, the spooky stuff was thrown out, Oddly committed to drag, he later admitted that "[Sharon Needles] was spooky. Her make-up was awful. She was more committed to art and wit than being a glamorous female impersonator." Oddly refused to take advantage of being a drag artist before this because she viewed herself as a "skinny, black, gay guy."

Oddly began doing drag in college in 2012 when Venus D'lite from RuPaul's Drag Race hosted a workshop on Valentine's Day, claiming she "attempted some drag (or ghost) makeup, sewed on a super-cheap red wig and dress, and backflipped my way through Lady Gaga's "Scheiße" segment. Her first appearances were at Denver's gay bar Tracks. The name 'Yvie Oddly' came from her pundy to describe her "being even stranger than anyone else"; Oddly, a young woman with a reputation for having "outrageous and unusual looks on stage" shortly after. Her ingenuity came from financial necessity, as making the "most fashionable or expensive" appearances was not a choice, according to her. "I've just always loved to work with the supplies that I have around me." Oddly appeared in Sharon Needles' "Dressed to Kill"'s music video in 2014.

Oddly was the victor of the Ultimate Queen of Denver pageant in 2015. Oddly performed in The Prohibition of Lust in Bohemia later this summer, becoming a cast member of Drag Nation; opened for pop star Mya on the Main Stage at PrideFest; and performed in Bohemia's The Prohibition of Lust. She appeared in Adore Delano's "Negative Nancy" music video in 2017.

Oddly said in 2017, that she used drag to confront gender stereotypes. Oddly said in 2018 that she liked to surprise and surprise with something the audience had never seen before, including dramatic photos and even unconventional and found items. "Artistry, fashion, show, and concept" were combined in her 2019 appearance. Thierry Mugler, a French fashion designer and haute couturier, as well as 'terrorist' drag queen Christeene, inspires her.

Oddly was both the boss of her Denver home drag bar as well as a drag queen, and she was determined to make her drag queen convert to a full-time gig in 2018. Even if her audition tape did not qualify her to RuPaul's Drag Race, she felt a drastic life change was imminent.

Oddly, she was chosen to compete in season eleven of RuPaul's Drag Race in January 2019, her third time to apply as a competitor. After Nina Flowers, she is Denver's second queen to compete on Drag Race. Oddly was quickly acknowledged as a fan and judge favourite during the competition, owing to her eccentric and conceptual looks, her leadership skills, and her outspoken personality, she became a fan and judges favorite. Oddly, the period of the competition was tense because she was unable to contact friends or relatives. She discussed her reasons for participating in the competition: e.g.

Oddly was the king of the second episode main challenge with Scarlet Envy. She spent six weeks in a row in the top of the competition, making her the queen with the most times in a row after Jinkx Monsoon's eight times. In the eighth episode, she and Brooke Lynn Hytes were both "bombed" on Snatch Game, the show's parody of celebrity-led Match Game. The Hytes, who were also doing well up to then, and Oddly were the bottom two queens in the show's history, with Demi Lovato's "Sorry Not Sorry" being regarded as one of the best fights in the show's history, causing RuPaul to keep both opponents intact.

Silky Nutmeg Ganache was a constant rivalry during the show. And though Oddly finished the choreography, Silky was one who should leave because she was resistant to RuPaul and the other judges' comments. A poll revealed that 94% of the population identified Oddly. During the March 21 episode, although the queens were being taught some complicated choreography for a live production of the political satire Trump, the Rusical, Oddly, Oddly, she had to be cautious about getting to the ground as her joints often protruded out of place. Ehlers-Danlos syndrome type 3 is a connective tissue disorder that affects the production of as much collagen as she does. Hers is a form of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS). Despite her explanation, Ehlers-Danlos syndromes have been attributed to poor collagen manufacturing and collagen-modifying enzymes.

In a single-shot video hip-hop interpretation of RuPaul's "Queens Everywhere," the final five queens wrote, filmed, danced, and performed a verse. Oddly's debut was the best with her focus and well executed, according to the reviewer. "Her risks, braveness, and bizarre thoughts have often landed her scathing criticism and adversaries on the show, but at least she's out here taking risks." Judge Todrick Hall later apologised for calling her choreography spastic, after being told by followers in the United Kingdom that it was a taboo thing to say in that region. The judges praised her appearance, her poetry, and her last runway appearance, as well as some of the evening's best commentators, making her the first queen to be voted by RuPaul to advance to the finale. She was the only one without multiple challenge wins, but she had the fewest appearances in the bottom two, alongside competitor Silky Nutmeg Ganache.

Oddly competed in the final three and lip-sync against A'keria Davenport to Rihanna's "SOS," which she won. For that, she wore a dress adorned with stuffed animals toys and neon fake fur. Brooke Lynn Hytes was beaten by oddly enough in the final lip-sync contest to Lady Gaga's "The Edge of Glory," which she also won. She had already demonstrated that she could give dramatic physical appearances, but she held off on stunts or gags and concentrated on "connect to the song" and give a solid artistic performance that would hopefully still have my voice as an artist."

Oddly wore a unique headpiece with mirrors that made her appearance from the front, and on the back, a second mask was made, while Kristi Siedow-Thompson conceived the costume. Her parents, who had not spoken to one of them in years, sat together in the audience in support. Oddly was crowned the winner of Season 11 of Drag Race and "America's Next Drag Superstar" on May 30, 2019. "Follow your oddities and fly your freak flag," she told the audience. Willow Pill, a drag queen who competed for the fewest challenges in RuPaul's Drag Race history, tied for the fewest challenge wins of any winner in RuPaul's Drag Race history, a record that was later tied by her drag sister and season 14 champion Willow Pill.

Oddly, the runner is the latest in a line of titles won by black queer and trans people in drag pageants and leather competitions, marking a shift for LGBTQ groups. Queer people of color, she says, are not often acknowledged enough for their contributions to queer culture. "Part Black, Part Caucasian, and a little bit Native American" is oddly "included." "There's been so much discussion about my race, whether or not I'm Black, whether or not colorism is at play." Because she is Black, her indignation with the gay group caused her to drag.

Yvie performed as a "Lip Sync Assassin" on Episode 1 of All Stars 5, where she lip-synced against India Ferrah and triumphed.

Oddly, she was chastised for failing to elevate her image to match her role as Drag Queen Superstar while still being given the $100,000 award. She argued that she was a poor Black drag queen with no ties in the larger drag scene with humble roots who invested all of her talent when she was crowned. The only thing that had changed by her first DragCon were her links. "I spent the next nine months repaying the debt of being the FIRST winner of my kind since the show's mainstream crossover," she said. She was consistently branded 'garbage,' and she reclaimed the term with her appearances. "If you don't want to know the principles behind my choices, it's because you operate in a position of privilege, where fashion and drag don't have to relate to your personal life circumstances, particularly not socioeconomically."

Oddly was one of the 2019 North American leg of the Werq the World tour, a multi-year international drag concert tour hosted by Michelle Visage and featuring RuPaul's Drag Race queens. The tour visited seventeen cities around North America, with five in Canada. During RuPaul's DragCon Los Angeles, it began in Los Angeles and concluded in September in New York City during RuPaul's DragCon NYC. The tour continued to major cities in Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, with the tour ending in November in November.

Oddly performed at Denver's PrideFest, the city's annual LGBTQ pride parade and festival, and hosted "Drag Nation" at her home bar Tracks in June 2019. Bournemouth's DYMK was her first post-win U.K. appearance. Oddly will appear at the Stonewall 50 - WorldPride NYC 2019, the world's biggest LGBTQ festival, and Services & Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE).

Oddities, the production company behind RuPaul's Drag Race, announced in June that Oddly would appear in her own reality show competition series. WOW Presents Plus is a cable television broadcaster. It follows the bargain-hunting queen's quest for "throwaway pieces" to transform one queen's garbage into her jaw-dropping fashion treasures. "Drag is all about the strength of change," Oddly said.

After showings of being physically exhausted, she was chastised for no longer posting selfies in July 2019, she was chastised for not doing selfies; later, she said she had to set boundaries; Hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) causes chronic pain, so she foregoes post-show selfies for more meaningful interactions. Oddly, let alone winning, put her drag art on a learning curve to convert every facet of her drag art into a company. It also compelled her to rethink what she could do physically, as contorting her body in performances comes at a price—while still providing a drag experience to her audiences.

Oddly stated,

Oddly performed in RuPaul's Drag Race Live!, a Las Vegas show residency, in September 2019.

Oddly recalled that when asked about the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes mandatory social segregation and stay-at-home orders, she mentioned that it brought her right back to her roots of being creative at home with her roommates. "I haven't really had a lot of time to invest back into the artistry of her drag, to do one-off performances, and really bring my whole family into the creative process," she says.

Oddly was named one of the eight returning winners of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars, the first ever all-winners season of Drag Race in April 2022.
