Three of her albums are certified platinum or higher by the RIAA.
Her most recent recording was Wynonna & the Big Noise, released on February 12, 2016, and she released the single "Cool Ya'" that same month.
Wynonna is most recognized for her musical work, although she has also pursued other interests starting in the 2000s, including writing, acting, and philanthropy.
Early life
Wynonna was born Christina Claire Ciminella in Ashland, Kentucky, on May 30, 1964. Her mother (then known as Diana) had quickly married Michael Ciminella after being abandoned by Charles Jordan, her boyfriend and Judd's biological father. Jordan died in 2000.
Her mother and Ciminella had a daughter together they named Ashley. The couple moved with the two girls to Los Angeles in 1968, but were divorced by 1972. By 1976, The mother took the girls with her back to Kentucky. Christina was inspired by the country music that her mother listened to and learned to play guitar. In 1979 the two moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue musical careers. There her mother legally changed her name from Diana to Naomi, and Christina adopted the stage name "Wynonna" after the song "(Get Your Kicks on) Route 66", which mentions the town of Winona, Arizona, in the lyrics.
Personal life
Wynonna and businessman Arch Kelley III had a son together before marrying in 1995. They had a second child together but divorced in 1998.
Wynonna married again, to D. R. Roach, her former bodyguard, on November 22, 2003, in Tennessee. On March 22, 2007, he was arrested for sexual assault of a child under the age of 13; she filed for divorce five days later.
In November 2003, Wynonna taped an appearance on an episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show discussing what she described as a severe dependence on food. The episode aired in February 2004. Judd had been working with the show in an effort to lose weight and get to the root of her dependence. In September 2005, she made a second appearance on the show, discussing how she had lost some weight. She also focused on improving relationships with her mother and her father Michael Ciminella, from whom she had been estranged for almost a decade.
Wynonna was a judge for the 6th annual Independent Music Awards, conducted to support independent artists' careers.
On December 24, 2011, Judd became engaged to boyfriend Scott "Cactus" Moser, best known as the drummer for Highway 101. They married on June 10, 2012, at her home in Leiper's Fork, Tennessee.
On August 18, 2012, Moser was severely injured in a motorcycle crash in South Dakota. He was on U.S. Route 16 in the Black Hills when he crossed the center line and hit a car. Injuries required his left leg to be amputated above the knee.
In June 2018, Wynonna's daughter Grace was sentenced to 8 years in prison for violating her probation period. She had pleaded guilty to possession, manufacturing and distribution of methamphetamines.
Solo career
Wynonna appeared on television for the first time at the American Music Awards on January 27, 1992. "She Is His Only Desire" was her first single from her self-titled solo debut album, and she performed it. Wynonna's album was released in 1992 via MCA/Curb under Tony Brown's direction. "She Is His Only Need" debuted on the Billboard country singles charts this year, as well as "I Saw the Light" and "My Strongest Weakness." According to Billboard Year-End, "No One Else on Earth" was also the number one country song of 1992. "She Is His Only Need" and "No One Else on Earth" were among the minor Adult Contemporary hits, with the former achieving No. 2 at No. 68. The Billboard Hot 100 is 83. "My Strongest Weakness," the album's final single, was a no. The United Kingdom has been hardest affected by the disaster. The album was released in the United States, earning a 5 star Multi-Platinum Award from the RIAA.
Tell Me Why, MCA/Curb's second album, was released in 1993. It's also a platinum-selling album, with "Only Love," "Is It Over Now," "Rock Bottom," and "Girls with Guitars," which were both written by Mary Chapin Carpenter. "Tell Me Why" was her third crossover hit, peaking at No. 2 in the United States. On the pop charts, 77 is 77, and No. 77 is No. No. The Adult Contemporary charts rank 24 on the Adult Contemporary charts. She appeared on "Tell Me Why" and "Only Love" on Clint Black's 1993 album "A Bad Goodbye" (from the album No Time to Kill), her highest pop hit at No. 1 and her highest pop hit. 43. Due to the popularity of this album, Black and Wynonna were the headliners on a tour called the Black & Wynwood tour.
She appeared on the Lynyrd Frynds tribute album Skynyrd Frynds, on which she wrote about their song "Free Bird" in 1994. On pop-Christian singer Michael English's debut album, "Healing," she also sang duet vocals. The pop charts have a 120-120. Wynonna was the subject of negative media after "Girls with Guitars" fell from the charts, as she had a child out of wedlock. For all of 1995, she was absent from the country charts. In 1996, she married Arch Kelly, the father of her daughter and son.
Revelations was the name of her third album, which was released by MCA/Curb in 1996. This album was launched by her fourth and final number one hit, as well as a platinum award-winning "To Be Loved by You" by Mike Reid/Gary Burr co-written "To Be Loved by You." Despite this song's minor Adult Contemporary success, the album's other three singles did not do as well:
The Other Side was Wynonna's fourth and final album for MCA. This album, rather than her previous pop-oriented albums, focuses on a more blues and rock sound. It was first released in 1997 and made four singles. However, the album did not sell as well as her first three, and it was only after receiving a gold medal. "When Love Starts Talkin'" and "Come Some Rainy Day" reached No. 1, it's singles were not as popular on the charts. No. 13 and No. 4 are the only ones on the list. "Always Will" fell short of Top 40, while "Love Like That" became her first single of her career not to chart at all. Wynonna left MCA in favour of Mercury Records after the release of a greatest hits album named Collection.
Wynonna decided to reunite with her mother for a tour that began on New Year's Eve in 1999. Wynonna's fifth solo album, New Day Dawning, was released a month later. This album, Wynonna's first album, featured four new Judds songs on a four-song bonus disc titled Big Bang Boogie.
What the World Needs Love, her sixth studio album, was released on Curb records in August 2003. At No. 14, the lead-off single "What the World Needs" debuted at number 15 on the country charts, followed by "Heaven Help Me" and "Flies on the Butter" (You Can't Go Home Again) at No. No. 37 and No. According to 33 percent, the USA is the third largest nation. This latter song, which was originally recorded by Lari White on her album Stepping Stone, featured backing vocals from Naomi Judd, instead of the Judds, and was credited on the charts as "Wynonna with Naomi Judd" rather than the Judds. Judd had a hit on the Hot Dance Airplay charts with a cover of Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is." Her interpretation reached a high point at No. 1. In 2005, there were 12 on the chart. Two songs from soundtracks were also included in the film Someone Like You, starring half-sister Ashley Judd, and "Burning Love" by Wynonna for the animated film Lilo & Stitch.
Her second release for Asylum-Curb was a live CD/DVD package named Her Story: Scenes from a Lifetime, which was simultaneously released by her best-selling autobiography, Coming Home to Myself. "Attitude," the album's opener, was included on the album. This album was produced as a single by Wynonna and John Rich of Big & Rich, peaking at No. 1 at No.1. On the country charts, the 40th position is 40. A Classic Christmas was released by her first solo Christmas album, which also included a Latin version of Ave Maria. On the 2008 RCA album Christmas Duets, she performed an overdubbed duet with Elvis Presley.
Sing: On Curb Records' website, Chapter 1 was her first studio album in six years. Except for the title track, which was Rodney Crowell's original composition, this album is mainly made up of cover songs. It also reunites her with singer Brent Maher and Don Potter, who produced all of Judd's 1980s albums. "I Hear You Knocking," a blues standard first released by Smiley Lewis, is this album's lead-off single. On May 9, 2009, a seven-song EP with dance remixes of the title track was released.
Wynonna appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show on September 14, 2010, where she talked about "her latest weight loss, her year of living in a dangerous manner, and what it's like to go back to stage as part of the legendary pair, the Judds." The Judds also performed their latest song, "I Will Stand By You," which was released on October 4, 2010. As the title track to Judd's 2011 Greatest Hits collection, "I Will Stand by You: The Essential Collection" was announced, "I Will Stand By You."
Judd's first book, Restless Heart, was published in 2011.
In May 2011, "Love It Out Loud" was released as a new single. Wynonna debuted her new band "Wynonna & the Big Noise" in Nashville, Tennessee, on November 27, 2011. Wynonna's "Something You Can't Live Without" was the first single off her forthcoming full-length album, which was produced by her husband/drummer Cactus Moser and scheduled for release 2013 on Curb Records. This album, her first with all new material in over four years, was recorded in her own home studio and is very personal, particularly the couple's life-changing activities in 2012.
On February 12, 2016, Judd's Wynonna & the Big Noise, a new studio album, was released. 'Jesus And A Jukebox' and Things I Lean On' were two singles on the album.
