Early life and education

Whitney Way Thore was born in Greensboro, North Carolina, on April 14, 1984, to Glenn and Barbara Thore.

Thore was accepted into the Governor's School of North Carolina at Meredith College in 2000. Thore, a student at Page High School in 2002, enrolled in Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, majoring in Theatre. Thore, a student, was sent to South Korea to teach English to school children.

Career

After Thore returned to the United States from Korea, she became the on-air producer of the Greensboro, North Carolina radio show Jared & Katie on 103 KZL.

On 107.5 KZL's YouTube channel, the show created "A Fat Girl Dancing" on February 27, 2014. Thore's message of body acceptance and positive body image went viral shortly. Thore was also featured on several media publications, including ABC News, NBC's Today Show, and The Huffington Post, as a direct result. My Big Fat Fabulous Life, TLC's longest-running family drama, chronicled Thore's life and her struggle to shed weight in early January 2015. The first season aired with ten episodes, and TLC premiered the second season in September 2015.

Thore released her book I Do It With The Lights On: And ten More Discoveries on the Road to a Blissfully Shame-Free Life in May 2016.
