Wenyen Gabriel Life

Wenyen Gabriel (born March 26, 1997) is a South Sudanese-American professional basketball player for the Stockton Kings who is on loan from the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA).

He played college basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats.

Gabriel, a 5-star prospect who appeared on ESPN's Top 100 in 2016, was ranked 14th.

Personal life

Gabriel was born in Khartoum, Sudan, on March 26, 1997. Gabriel was given the name "Wenyen," which means "wipe your tears" in his native Dinka language, because his sister, who was born a year earlier, died in infancy. Gabriel's mother, Rebecca Gak, and his three children fled Cairo, Egypt, two weeks after he was born, to escape the brutality of the Second Sudanese Civil War. Although Gabriel's mother was struggling to make enough money to relocate his father, Makuac, to Cairo, his seven-year-old brother, Komot, became Gabriel's primary care giver. The United Nations granted an appeal to relocate the migrant family to Manchester, New Hampshire, an American city with a large South Sudanese population.

Gabriel obtained a US passport in 2015 and starred for the USA Basketball Junior National Select Team at the 2016 Nike Hoop Summit. South Sudan is considered to be his rightful home country by the author.
