Ulrich Tukur (born Ulrich Gerhard Scheurlen, 1977) is a German actor and singer.

Early life and education

Tukur spent his youth in Hannover, where he passed his final secondary school examinations in 1977. During a student swap in Boston (USA), where he first married Amber Wood, he obtained a high school diploma in Boston (USA). Marlene and Lilian have two children with her mother. When Tukur and Wood were dating, he ended his service and began to study German, English, and history at the University of Tübingen. He performed as a singer to earn extra money. Anyone who caught him asked if he wanted to be in a play. He became interested in acting and began studying at the Staats Hochschule for Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart in 1980.

Career

Tukur appeared in a theatre in Heidelberg after completing his acting studies in 1983. He appeared in his first film while still a student. Willi Graf appears in Die Weiße Rose, directed by Michael Verhoeven, who portrays Willi Graf.

Tukur's debut at the theatre in 1984, when famous director Peter Zadek gave him a role in Joshua Sobol's production Ghetto. He worked at Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg from 1985 to 1995, then Zadek and later managed him. He appeared in many productions, including Shakespeare's Julius Caesar as Marc Anton, Hamlet, and Frank Wedekind's Lulu directed by Zadek. He was named actor of the year by German theater critics in 1986. He ruled the Hamburger Kammerspiele theatre from 1995 to 2003, sharing the job with Ulrich Waller.

Tukur has been recording and touring as a performer since 1989. He formed the dance band "Ulrich Tukur & the Rhythmus Boys" in 1995 with Kalle Mews (drums), Ulrich Mayer (guitar, vocals), and Günther Märtens (contrabass, guitar, vocals).

Tukur has been married twice. Since 1999, he and his second wife, photographer Katharina John, have been living in Venice (Italy) on Giudecca.

Tukur appeared in John Rabe, the Sino-German co-production about the Nanking massacre. Kurt Hauff, a psychopath who killed police officer Richard Moser, was portrayed in Kommissar Rex (Tobias Moretti). In the 1999 film Bonhoeffer: Agent of Grace, he appeared in the principal role.
