Career
Chu entered as fourth place in the 2012 Miss Hong Kong pageant competition. Despite being a fan favorite and many TVB artists, including current winners Samantha Ko. Suki Chui and TVB's executive officer Virginia Lok, Chu did not win the title partially due to technical difficulties in the voting system.
The 2012 pageant was the first Miss Hong Kong pageant to hold online voting. The winner was expected to be selected based on popular internet votes by audiences. Chu was the 2nd Runner-up, but many netizens and fellow TVB artists felt Chu was robbed of the winning title mainly because the day's average voter pool was at 65%. Over 500 citizens of Hong Kong lodged a lawsuit against TVB with the Office of the Telecommunications Authority (OFTA), alleging that fraud had been committed when the winner was eventually determined by the judging committee.
Tsang Sing-ming, the TVB's External Affairs Minister, later apologized to the public for the disruption of TVB's computer networks, causing a large number of viewers to vote for their favorite. He also stated that the winner had already been selected and that no recount could be carried out.
