Thomas McGrath, born on August 7, 1964, is an American voice actor, animator, and film producer.
He is best known for co-directing (with Eric Darnell) the 2005 comedy Madagascar and its sequels, Escape 2 Africa (Mexico's Most Wanted), and Madagascar 3: Africa's Most Wanted in 2012, as well as providing Skipper voices in all films, short films, and The Penguins of Madagascar television series.
He has appeared on other DreamWorks Animation films, including Flushed Away in 2006 and Shrek the Third in 2007.
He also stepped in on Flushed Away to help with the Away's construction ahead of its unveiling.
He has also produced DreamWorks' Megamind and The Boss Baby, earning him a nomination for Best Animated Feature for the latter.
Life and career
McGrath was born and raised in Lynnwood, Washington. He studied Industrial Design at the University of Washington and graduated from Cal Arts' Character Animation program. McGrath's work in both television and film animation includes work as an animator on Cool World and Space Jam, storyboard artist and producer on The Ren and Stimpy Show, and storyboard artist on the live action film Cats & Dogs. For How the Grinch Stole Christmas, he served as a storyboard artist, concept artist, and set designer. McGrath also jumped in on Flushed Away by Aardman, the creators of The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, to help make changes prior to its publication.
McGrath made his filmdirecting debut as the co-director and co-writer of Madagascar, where he also played Skipper, the penguin leader. He reprised his role as Skipper and co-directed and co-wrote the sequel Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa. He has also worked on The Penguins of Madagascar, a spin-off TV series, as a creative consultant and as the voice of Skipper. Megamind was founded in November 2010.
He directed The Boss Baby, the 2021 sequel The Boss Baby: Family Business, and also directed the 2021 sequel The Boss Baby: Family Business.
