Taylor Hunt Trensch (born May 3, 1989) is an American stage actor.

Early life and education

Trensch was born in Tampa, Florida.

He began his education at Howard W. Blake High School in Tampa, Florida. He was an acting major and studied under Eric Davis. Trensch, a student at Blake's Troupe 5742, was given the "Most Outstanding Performer" award by the Florida State Thespian Society during his senior year. Trensch graduated in 2007.

He was then accepted into Elon University's musical theatre program and spent two years there.

Personal life

Trensch is openly gay. Since December 2017, he has been in a relationship with his former Dear Evan Hansen costar, Ben Levi Ross, a former Dear Evan Hansen costar.

Career

Trensch appeared in The Rocky Horror Show, Little Shop of Horrors, Into the Woods, Cabaret, and Rabbit Hole in the summer of 2008.

Trensch appeared as Moritz Steifel in the national tour of Spring Awakening in 2009 and took an academic leave from 2009 to 2010. Trensch's portrayal of Moritz received the 2009 Denver Post Ovation Award for Best Supporting Actor in a National Touring Company.

In William Finn and James Lapine's latest musical comedy "Dwayne Hoover," Trensch appeared as "Dwayne Hoover" at the La Jolla Playhouse Mandell Weiss Theatre in early 2011.

Trensch performed in the Broadway production of Wicked from January 24, 2012 to April 22, 2012, replacing Etai BenShlomo.

Trensch appeared in the role of "Peter" in Bare's off Broadway performance from November 19, 2012 to February 3, 2013 at New World Stages.

Trensch appeared in early October 2012 as "Gordon & Others" in the off Broadway revival of Rent at New World Stages from May 2012 to September 9, 2012.

Michael Wormwood premiered as Michael Wormwood in the original Broadway production of Matilda the Musical on April 11, 2013 (previews began on March 4, 2013) and remained in the role until June 8. 2014.

In the original Broadway performance of The Curious Incident of the Dog, Trensche performed the lead role of Christopher Boone in select performances, associating Alex Sharp with Alex Sharp. He stayed in the role until September 12, 2015. The show received five Tony Awards in 2015, including the awards for "Best Play" and "Best Actor in a Play."

Trensch appeared in the world premiere of Samuel D. Hunter's Clarkson at the Dallas Theatre Center in January 2016. Tyler Clementi appeared in the world premiere of Craig Carnelia and Joe Tracz's Poster Boy at the Williamstown Theatre Festival later this year.

In the reading of the screenplay for the movie version of Into the Woods, Trensch played "Jack."

In the Broadway revival of Hello, Dolly, Trensch was played as Barnaby Tucker. The Shubert Theatre opened on March 15, 2017, and it opened on April 20 at the Shubert Theatre. He and fellow co-stars Bette Midler, David Hyde Pierce, and Beanie Feldstein both left the show on January 14, 2018.

In Dear Evan Hansen's retelling of Evan Hansen in Dear Evan Hansen at the Music Box Theatre on Broadway on February 6, 2018. He appeared in two shows before officially taking over the role. He left the company on January 27, 2019 and was replaced by Andrew Barth Feldman.

Trensch has appeared in To Kill a Mockingbird as Dill Harris, beginning on November 5, 2019. He now holds the most Broadway shows at the Shubert Theatre.

Trensch appeared on Nickelodeon's Nella the Princess Knight.
