Tamim Iqbal Khan (born 20 March 1989) is a Bangladeshi international cricketer.
Tamim made his One Day International debut in 2007 and played his first Test the following year.
Between December 2010 and September 2011, he served as vice captain of the national team.

Early and personal life
Tamim was born in Chittagong's port city of Iqbal Khan and Nusrat Iqbal Khan. Khan's paternal family is a prominent family in the area, with ancestry from Bihar. His maternal family is from Salempur, Uttar Pradesh. Tamim is the uncle of Akram Khan, Nafees Iqbal, and his nephew, who both played Test cricket for Bangladesh.
Iqbal, Tamim's father, used to host small cricket tournaments to encourage his sons to train and get better at cricket. In an interview, Nafees, a former national team cricketer, said, "Tamim was the most exciting one." When Tamim was 12 or 13, he reached 148 as the team chased 150."

International career
Tamim, a young talent of Bangladesh who competed in the 2006 U-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka, was selected for the 2007 World Cup and played against India in the group stage of the tournament, scoring 51 runs from 53 deliveries, assisting his team in winning the match. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) gave Tamim a one-year grade C contract in December, one of the Board's 22 central contracts at the time. Despite being in the lowest level of central jobs, it was an extension of his previous employment, which lasted six months.
Tamim scored his second Test century against a West Indies outfit that was reduced by tensions between players and administrators, resulting in seven players making their Test debuts in the game. Bangladesh won by a huge margin against the West Indies in Tests, their first overseas Test victory and only their second Test victory. He finished with 128, and was named Man of the Match for his efforts (he also scored 33 in the first innings). Tamim said, "It was a flat wicket, and it's a good idea to score on." I'm only 20 and have played only 11 Tests, so I suspect there are plenty more [innings like this] to come." Bangladesh won the second Test of the second Test and win their first overseas series victory. With 197 runs, Iqbal was Bangladesh's top run-scorer in the series.
In January 2010, Bangladesh's coach, Jamie Siddons, opined Tamim had "the makings of a world-class opener."
Tamim scored 86 runs from 120 deliveries in the first innings of the first Test against England in March 2010. He became the fastest Bangladesh batsman to reach 1,000 Test runs in terms of innings in the process, taking 19 runs to reach the record. He also became the third-youngest Test player in Test history (behind Sachin Tendulkar and compatriot Mohammad Ashraful) to reach 1,000 Test runs.
Bangladesh toured England in May 2008 for two more Tests and three ODIs. Despite losing 2–0, Tamim's team scored a century in each of the Tests. Tamim was named one of the Wisden Cricketers' Almanack's top cricketers of the Year in 2011 for his match against England. He was also named Wisden's Test Player of the Year in October, ahead of Graeme Swann and Virender Sehwag, who came second and third respectively. Tamim took 837 runs in seven Tests over a median of 59.78 during the qualifying period. Despite claiming in a press conference that Zimbabwe's bowlers were no threat, Tamim managed 58 runs in the Test as Bangladesh slid to defeat. Bangladesh lost the following ODI series against Zimbabwe 3–2. Bangladesh's batsmen were struggling early in the series, with Tamim batting 157 runs from five wickets at an average of 31.40. Shakib and Tamim were fired as captain and vice-captain in the aftermath of the series, with a BCB representative blaming their poor leadership.
In October, the West Indies toured Bangladesh, T20I, three ODIs, and two Tests against Bangladesh. Despite losing the Test series 1–0, Tamim was his team's top run-scorer with 186 from four innings, including two half-centuries. In 2012, the BCB formed the Bangladesh Premier League, a twenty20 tournament will be held in February of that year. Tamim was made by the BCB as the 'icon player' for Chittagong Kings. However, his appearances were limited due to a groin injury, and he played only two games and scored eight runs.
The Asia Cup was hosted in Bangladesh in March 2012. Tamim, a typhoid sufferer, was initially dropped from the squad on BCB President Mustafa Kamal's orders. Kamal had defied the selection committee, and Tamim was eventually named to the squad, sparking controversies. He responded by smashing four consecutive half-centuries, becoming the first Bangladesh player to achieve the feat in ODIs. Bangladesh reached the final against all hopes, but they lost by two runs to Pakistan. Tamim signed with Pune Warriors in the Indian Premier League later this month, but the team did not play a single match. In April, his top-level central contract with the BCB was renewed.
Despite losing the T20 and the Test series, Bangladesh hosted West Indies in late 2012, where Bangladesh won the ODI series. His highest score in the ODI and Test series was 58 and 72 respectively. Despite losing the match for 18 runs short, Tamim's best result in the overall series was the unbeaten 88 in the lone T20 series.
Bangladesh held a home series against Pakistan after the 2015 Cricket World Cup. Tamim enjoyed a dazzling ODI match against Pakistan, where he scored two back-to-back match-winning centuries. For the first time in an ODI story, Bangladesh whitewashed Pakistan, and Tamim was named Man of the series.
Tamim was India's highest run scorer at the 2016 ICC World Twenty202020. In the group stages of the tournament, Oman was unbeaten 103* against Oman. He became the first Bangladesh cricketer to score an international T20I century while also achieving his previous best score of 88* (also held by him). Bangladesh then qualified for the Super 10 stage, thanks in part. Tamim also led the highest number of 6's struck charts at the tournament.
Tamim sustained a fractured thumb on the little finger in August 2016, which barred him from playing cricket for about three weeks. Iqbal scored a hundred against Pakistan in a warm-up game at Edgbaston in Birmingham, preparing for the 2017 Champions Trophy. He was playing against England in the first of the league games at The Oval, taking the team's total number to 305, which was later chased down by the latter. In the next game against Australia against Australia, he scored 95 balls off 114 balls, a match that ended without a result. He scored 70 off 82 balls in a losing cause, despite the tournament's having 293 runs. The ICC and Cricinfo also selected him as part of the 'Team of the Tournament' at the 2017 Champions Trophy.
In August 2017, he was selected in a World XI team to face Pakistan in three Twenty20 International matches in Lahore.
Tamim became Bangladesh's first batsman against Zimbabwe on January 23, 2018. Tamim also went past Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya's 2,514 runs at the R. Premadasa Stadium to become the best run-scoer at a single stadium in ODIs during this innings.
He was one of ten cricketers to be granted a central contract by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in April 2018 ahead of the 2018 season. He was named in the Rest of the World XI squad for the one-off T20I against the West Indies, which will be played at Lord's on May 31.
In a three-match series against West Indies in July 2018, Tamim scored 287 runs with an average of 143.5, becoming the man of the series for the fourth time in ODI history after Shakib Al Hasan. He climbed to a 13th position in the ICC ODI Batsman Rankings, achieving his highest rating rank of 737.

In March 2020, when Zimbabwe toured Bangladesh, he scored 158 runs off 136 runs in the 2nd ODI, his highest individual score by any Bangladeshi batsman, as well as second Bangladeshi batsman's 100 runs in Sylhet, making him the first Bangladeshi batsman to score 7,000 runs in ODI cricket. After Mashrafe Mortaza resigned as the ODI captain post Zimbabwe series in March 2020, Tamim was named the ODI captain of Bangladesh on March 8.

Sri Lanka toured Bangladesh in May 2021 for a three-match ODI series. Bangladesh won the ODI series by 2–1. The first two matches were a success, but they then lost the third match and then advanced to the ODI series by 2–1. It was Bangladesh's first bilateral series victory over Sri Lanka.
