Talmage Charles Robert "Tal" Bachman (born August 13, 1968) is a Canadian singer-songwriter and singer.

He is best known for his late 1999 hit, "She's So High," a pop rock song from his self-titled 1999 album that resulted in a BMI award.

Personal life

Bachman lives in Victoria, British Columbia, and is the nephew and uncle of Canadian rockers Randy Bachman and Robbie Bachman of the classic rock band The Guess Who and Bachman: Turner Overdrive. Lorelei Bachman is both a writer and a musician.

He is a former member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) and went on a two-year pilgrimage to Argentina, but Bachman found that Joseph Smith had invented his tales, and severed his ties to the church. In 2006, Bachman was interviewed for the PBS documentary The Mormons. He addressed his departure from the LDS Church in the book. When interviewed for Bill Maher's documentary Religulous in 2008, Bachman also discussed his departure from the LDS Church.

Bachman, a bachelor's degree in political science, has moonlighted as a political commentator, contributing to American Greatness and SteynOnline.

Bachman was surprised to learn that the restaurant had removed key lime pie, his personal favorite from the dessert menu, while dining at Victoria, British Columbia's Cactus Club Cafe. He oversaw a fruitful public pressure movement to convince restaurant owners to reclaim the dessert. "If it's great, they'll stop making it," Bachman said describing the event.

Musical career

Bachman got his musical break when executives at EMI Music Publishing in New York City received a demo tape and assisted him in securing a record deal with Columbia Records. Bob Rock (of Metallica, Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, and Skid Row fame) has signed on to co-produce his debut album. Tal Bachman's debut album, "She's So High," would be his hit single. In Canada, there are three main radio stations. The song received BMI's "Song of the Year" award in the United States and around the world, making it a multi-format Top ten hit in the United States and internationally. Bachman received two Juno awards in Canada, as well as much media exposure in Rolling Stone, MTV, MuchMusic, and E Network; and profiles, interviews, and reviews in Rolling Stone, Q Magazine, Los Angeles, Interview. Bachman toured as an opening act for Bryan Adams and the Barenaked Ladies, as well as touring in his own right in favor of the record.

Staring Down the Sun, Bachman's second album, was released in Canada by Sextant Records in August 2004 and later released in the United States by Artemis Records in 2006. The single "Aeroplane" reached No. 1 in the United States. In the 2005 film American Pie Presents: Band Camp, 20 on the Canadian charts was used. It was portrayed as an instrumental and in the credits.
