Tabassum (born Kiran Bala Sachdev in 1944) is an Indian film actress and talk show host who began her career as Child actor Baby Tabassum in 1947.

Phool Khile Hain Gulshan Gulshan, the host of India's first television talk show, had a fruitful career.

Doordarshan, the national broadcaster, appeared on national television from 1972 to 1993, wherein she consulted film and TV stars.

She also worked as a stage compere.

She has appeared on all four media, television, radio, and web.

Early life and background

Asghari Begum, freedom fighter, journalist, and an author, born in Mumbai in 1944. Her father named her Tabassum, keeping her mother's religious sentiments in mind, while her mother kept her name Kiran Bala, remembering her father's religious sentiments. Kiran Bala Sachdev, who was officially listed on pre-marriage papers, was her official name.

Personal life

She is married to Vijay Govil, the elder brother of TV actor Arun Govil. Hoshang Govil had a short run as a lead in three films Tum Par Hum Qurbaan (1985), which was produced and directed by Tabassum, in which she introduced Johnny Lever for the first time on film as a comedian. Kartoot (1987) and Ajeeb Dastaan Hai Yeah (1996) were produced by Zee TV and directed by J Om Prakash (grandfather of Hrithik Roshan). Khushi, the granddaughter of Hoshang's grandchild, made her film debut with Hum Phir Mile Na Mile in 2009.

Tabassum appeared on screen for the first time as a child actor with Nargis (1947), Manjhdhar (1947), and Bari Behen (1949). She appeared in Deedar (1951), directed by Nitin Bose, in which Nargis' childhood role was played; Bachpan Ke Din Bhula Na Dena, sung by Lata Mangeshkar and Shamshad Begum, was picturized on her. She also appeared in another important film Baiju Bawra (1952), directed by Vijay Bhatt, where she appeared in the childhood role of Meena Kumari. Joy Mukherjee and Asha Parekh appeared in the well-known film Phir Dil Laya Hoon starring Joy Mukherjee and Asha Parekh. She appeared in the lovely song 'Aji qibla mohtarma'. After a long absence, she returned to film in adult roles, mainly as a character actor.

Phool Khile Gulshan Gulshan, the first talk show on Indian television, spanning 21 years from 1972 to 1993, was hosted by her. It was designed by Doordarshan Kendra Mumbai and became extremely popular. This led to a career as a stage compere. She was also the editor of Grihalaxmi, a Hindi women's magazine for 15 years, and she wrote numerous joke books.

Tum Par Hum Qurban, her first film, was produced and written in 1985. She returned to television in 2006 as an actress in Pyaar Ke Do Naam's Ek Shyaam, a production by Rajshri Productions. On Zee TV, she appeared as a judge in a reality stand-up comedy program Ladies Special (2009).

She continued to work as an interviewer for television and is currently working on a television show based in Asia and Canada named Abhi Toh Main Jawaan Hoon, which is based on the Golden Age of Hindi Cinema. She also started "Tabassum Talkies," which consisted of nostalgic talks, interviews with celebrities, shayaris, jokes, and others on YouTube.
