Swastima Khadka Career

Career

Khadka appeared in Suraj Bhusal's Hostel Returns, where she appeared alongside Sushil Shrestha, Najir Hussain, and Sunil Rawal. She portrayed Alina, a two-year-old girl in her kindergarten's love triangle. She was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the National Film Awards for Hostel Returns. She appeared in Dipendra K. Khanal's romantic-drama Love Love Love (2017), a girl whose childhood friend's admiration for her is not reciprocated. Critics lauded Samriddhi's portrayal of the kingdom, but The Himalayan Times reported that "Khadka's act is appealing." Her body language, gestures, and dialogue delivery are all ingenious." Khadka made a guest appearance in "Kutu Ma Kutu" last year. Audiences and commentators applauded her appearance in the film. "Swastima Khadka danced gracefully to this catching Nepali number," the reviewer wrote for Nepali Sansar. Every time we hear Kutu Ma Kutu, our sweet smile and performance will come to us. The song became the first Nepali music video to reach 100 million views on YouTube.

Khadka appeared in Deepa Shree Niraula's social drama film Chhakka Panja 2 later this year. In the film, she plays Akansha, a student who wants to go to Australia to study but has trouble with the International English Language Testing System, which is required to enter the country. Chhakka Panja 2 earned 60 million Nepale rupees within the first six days of its launch, surpassing the second highest-grossing Nepali film, according to the Kathmandu Post. Khadka answered her questions about her time with the cast members of Chhakka Panja 2, "I need to learn a lot." They've been in the industry for more than 20 years; they've obviously know a lot more than I do. And not only did I learn stuff about movies while working with them, but I also learned about other aspects of the media, working with them, and dealing with them all. I admit, I get overshadowed by them sometimes, but then, rather than a disadvantage, I like to think of it as a benefit to sit on the sideline and absorb what I can learn from them.

After all, they are the superstars!

"I have no idea what you're looking for."

Khadka appeared in Bikash Raj Acharya's romantic-drama Nai Nabhannu La 5, the fifth installment in the Nai Nabhannu La film series. Khadka plays Ranjana, a teenage girl who shares a love with Neer, a debutant actor Abhisek Nepal plays. "Khadka has been a tenacious late teen," Diwakar Pyakurel of Onlinekhabar wrote, "and she does it admirably." In its first weekend, the film surpassed two crore (20 million) Nepalese rupees (approximately US$163,500). Khadka played a minor role in the film Chhakka Panja 3, where she played a Brahmin girl who later became the love interest of a Janajati child. Khagendra Lamichhane, Saugat Malla, and Buddhi Tamang followed her in Jai Bhole in 2018. Jai (Khagendra Lamichhane) who dies for Nisha (Swastima Khadka), but Nisha's sworn brother intervenes with them.

Khadka appeared alongside Mukun Bhusal in Binod Paudel's drama film Bulbul in 2019. Khadka plays Ranakala, a student driver in Kathmandu, in the film. The film was selected as the Best International Feature Film at the 92nd Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. "I received the greatest appreciation [for] Bulbul] in out of all my six films," she told The Nepali Man. So here goes, there's a good part of [the] audience that [does] love these independent films. Bulbul went into its fourth week. Any film that is going to be released in its second week is going to get a great response. Bulbul's fourth anniversary is a huge achievement in itself. That's why I'm pretty sure that an audience that [does] understand such art movies is on the rise." Khadka's performance was lauded with critical skepticism. Prakriti Kandel, a Nepali Times columnist, lauded her work, writing a letter.

Khadka and Ghamad Shere were both present in Hajar Juni Samma and Ghamad Shere the same year after Bulbul. Khadka, a medical student from Sikkim, plays Avantika, a Hajar Juli Samma. The film, according to Sunny Mahat of The Annapurna Express, was "a film you'd like to see with your female friends, but then see them cringe at the terrifying old man trying to find a match for his son." Khadka had "done justice to [her] position," Rupak Risal of Moviemandu wrote. Khadka's husband Nischal Basnet played Gauri, an English teacher and sister-in-law of the main character Shere in Ghamad Shere, where Khadka appeared as Gauri, an English teacher and sister-in-law of the main character. The Kathmandu Post's Abhimanyu Dixit chastised that Basnet and Khadka had the same film as siblings-in-law, writing, "To cast Swastima as a reel-life sister-in-law to her real-life husband Nischal may have been a good idea or something ‘different' on paper, but it hardly works." Both actors try to be consistent with their respective characters, but it is not enough to convince us that they are anything but Nischal and Swastima, the real-life couple."
