Stephen Daniel Mulhern (born 4th of April 1977) is an English television host, entertainer, magician, and showbiz celebrity.
Mulhern has hosted the ITV2 spin-off series Britain's Got Talent since 2007, and has more recently launched ITV game shows including Catch Me, Big Star's Little Star, and In for a Penny.
With Emma Willis, he co-hosted the Sunday breakfast show on Heart Radio.
Early life and education
Mulhern's parents were market traders. He attended St Bonaventure's Secondary School in Forest Gate, East London.
Career
Mulhern gained an interest in comedy and magic from his father, who taught him tricks when he was 11 years old. The family spent their holidays at Butlin's Minehead in Somerset, where Mulhern first appeared in public. He became the youngest member of The Magic Circle, which culminated in an interview with Harry Houdini on Blue Peter. Mulhern was later suspended from The Magic Circle for announcing a magic trick on the children's television show Finger Tips. The suspension was eventually lifted.
He created a magical display at Stephen's Mega Mad Magic Show after dropping out of school. Michael Barrymore of My Kind of People won another television talent show called The Big Big Talent Show, hosted by Jonathan Ross, and as a result, he was allowed to participate in the Royal Variety Performance at the Victoria Palace Theatre in 1997.
Mulhern has appeared on Disney Channel and later on CITV with Holly Willoughby on Saturday Showdown. Since being introduced on television, The Quick Trick Show and more recently Tricky TV have appeared. Mulhern created and presented the Channel 4 magical show Freaky in 2005. In 2006, he appeared in second place in a magic routine on an episode of The Slammer. Flawless, a dance group that went on to perform on Britain's Got Talent (a spin-off show of which Mulhern appears), came first.
