Career
Bagans co-produced a documentary-style film called Ghost Adventures in 2004. In 2007, the film premiered on the SciFi Channel. On the Travel Channel in 2008, a successor series premiered in 2008 and has been airing on the Travel Channel for 19 seasons as of 2019. Ghost hunting in general, and Ghost Adventures in particular, have been accused of falsehood.
Following changes to people's lives following prior Ghost Adventures investigations, Bagans produced Ghost Adventures: Aftershocks, which focused on changes to people's lives.
Bagans found items for a new "unt museum" in Las Vegas, Nevada, on April 2, 2016. In October 2017, the museum was opened to the public for the first time. It consists of 33 rooms with various artifacts on display. Visitors are given guided tours of the rooms. Bela Lugosi's mirror, Dybbuk box, Peggy the Doll, and Jack Kevorkian's "Death Van" are among the exhibits on sale. Several of the artifacts's claims have been dismissed. Both the Lugosi mirror and Captain Smith mirror on display at the museum have been shown to have questionable provenance.
In 2018, the museum received the Las Vegas Mayor's Award for historic preservation and adaptive reuse.
The transaxle recovered from American actor James Dean's Porsche 550 Spyder was added to the museum's collection in 2021.
Discovery+ Channel announced plans to air The Haunted Museum, a forthcoming horror anthology exhibit for which Zak Bagans will be the host and an executive producer in May 2021. The Cream Productions, Eli Roth, Nevada, and Toronto, Canada, will film the series, as executive producers, as well as Matt Booi, Kate Harrison Karman and David Brady.
With the lead investigator of the Ghost Adventures Crew, Bagans co-wrote a book titled Dark World: Into the Shadows with author Kelly Crigger. The book debuted on the New York Times Best Seller list at No. 111 on September 23, 2011. 18.
Bagans' book Ghost-Hunting For Dummies was released in December, 2019. The book "outlines the history of ghost hunting, including real accounts and accounts from Bagans' most popular cases and investigations, as well as tips on how to get started investigating the supernatural." Kenneth Biddle, a journalist for Skeptical Inquirer magazine, finds that within a large portion of the book Bagans' book, there is a strong bias against skeptics and scientists. Several passages in the book and those by other writers were similar in terms of both the Skeptic Inquirer and the Society for Psychical Research.
