Sloan Wilson Life

Sloan Wilson (May 8, 1920 – May 25, 2003) was an American writer.

Personal life

Wilson suffered with alcoholism throughout his life, as well as Alzheimer's disease toward the end. He paid himself in later years by releasing commissions such as biographies and yacht histories in lieu of novels and magazine articles. At the time of his death, he was living in Colonial Beach, Virginia.

Wilson married twice, first to Elise Pickhardt in 1941. Rebecca Wilson, David Sloan Wilson, and Lisa had three children. Rebecca is a nurse, David is an evolutionary biologist, and Lisa is a poet. Betty Stephens, whom he married in 1962, was his second wife. Jessie was their only child.

Wilson's service as an officer in World War II is highlighted at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.

Wilson, his wife, and daughter spent their 1970s aboard the Pretty Betty, a 54' cruiser.
