Sheinelle Marie Jones was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on April 19, 1978. Judge C. Darnell Jones II, a U.S. District Court Judge, is her father. She attended Wichita Brooks Middle Magnet School and Wichita Heights High School, both in Wichita, Kansas, and Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.

Jones married Uche Ojeh in 2007 and they have three children, sons Kayin, Uche, and daughter Clara.
Career
Jones' first broadcasting gig for WICS was in Springfield, Illinois. Jones worked at KOKI-TV, the FOX affiliate in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and WTXF-TV in Philadelphia before going to work for NBC News. She was at the Philadelphia station for more than nine years.
Jones joined Today on October 4, 2014 as part of Weekend Today. On 3rd Hour Today, she became a co-host in January 2019. Jones, as a co-host on 3rd Hour Today and a co-anchor on Weekend Today's Saturday editions, was working six days a week. Jones left Weekend Today on December 21, 2019. Jones underwent surgery to remove lesions from her vocal cord and, as a result, she was unable to talk for two weeks; she stayed out of work for six weeks in February 2020.
