Sharon den Adel Life

Sharon Janny den Adel (born 12 July 1974) is a Dutch singer, songwriter, and fashion designer best known as the lead singer and one of the Dutch symphonic metal band Within Temptation's top songwriters.

She has been a performer since the age of 14 and has been a founding member of Within Temptation, along with Robert Westerholt in 1996.

She was also nominated to be the jury's chairperson for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018.

Personal life

Sharon Janny den Adel was born in Waddinxveen on July 12, 1974. She travelled extensively in her youth, including Indonesia, where she lived between ages one and six. According to den Adel, certain movements she makes during her concerts are influenced by Balinese dancers who she hadn't seen at that time. After returning from Suriname to the Netherlands, she was mocked by peers for her different clothing style, hairstyle, and darkened skin. She appeared with various bands, including a blues rock band called Kashiro, from the age of fourteen. As their friendship grew, they formed The Portal in 1996, but the band's name was changed to Within Temptation before their debuting. She has a bachelor's degree in fashion design.

Den Adel and long-term partner Robert Westerholt have three children together, and they now live near Hilversum. During Den Adel's first pregnancy, they had a child, and she gave birth in December 2005.

Den Adel revealed on February 22, 2009, she was pregnant with her second child. In June 2009, the band's official website revealed their son's birth.

Den Adel revealed on November 26, 2010 that she was expecting her third child; the band's 2011 tour dates were postponed from spring to fall. In March 2011, she revealed the birth of her third child.

Sharon den Adel Career

Career

Sharon never studied singing seriously, and she said in a 2006 interview that she had served in a choir for a short time and that she was mostly self-taught. She used to exercise alone for three to four hours a day. Her vocal range is a mezzo-soprano.

Den Adel formed Within Temptation (originally named The Portal, but the name was changed before their first appearance) in 1996 together with her partner Robert Westerholt. They're known as epic and cinematic, according to her. Despite having never received formal vocal instruction, her vocals play a major role in the band's success.

She worked for a fashion company before the band's hit song "Ice Queen" became a hit song. She makes her stage costumes and the band's merchandise using her fashion expertise. According to About.com, den Adel is described as a "versatile and skilled singer who is equally adept at performing with a full orchestra and choir as she is at performing comfortably and emotionally with only a piano." When asked whether she prefers to sing in Dutch or English, den Adel said that she chooses the latter because "Dutch just doesn't match our musical style." It is also not the right word to sing in. These options, whether Italian or Spanish, would then be better options."

The band had been invited several times to compete in the Eurovision Song Contest as the Dutch representatives, but they had to withdraw each time because they felt it wasn't the right place for a metal band to perform themselves. Den Adel was then chosen as a juror for that year's edition.

Den Adel revealed on November 9, 2017 on the Dutch television show RTL Late Night that on the tenth day of her solo project My Indigo, also named "My Indigo," would be released. The initiative was not meant to be released to the general public at first, as it was for her personal use, as well as a writer's block from composing for Within Temptation. Den Adel decided to announce the initiative publicly as "My Indigo," after two years of composing for herself and with renewed inspiration to write for Within Temptation. On April 20, 2018, the self-titled first album was released.

Den Adel has appeared onstage and in the studio with many well-known artists from many musical genres, including Tarja Turunen, Armin van Buuren, After Forever, De Heideroosjes, Oomph!, Delain, Aman of Annique, Anneke van Giersbergen, and Evanescence. Den Adel worked with Voyage, a group of the future Within Temptation members, before forming "Frozen" (not to be confused with the Within Temptation song of the same name).

The vocalist appeared in many rock and metal opera productions, including Anna Held in two Tobias Sammet's Avantasia releases, The Metal Opera and The Metal Opera Part II, and later in the 2016 album Ghostlights, as the singer performed the part of the "Muse." She appeared in "Indian" on Ayreon's rock opera Into the Electric Castle, as well as "Indian" on Ayreon's rock opera Into the Electric Castle. Den Adel later worked on two of Timo Tolkki's "Shine" as a guest vocalist on Timo Tolkki's "Alive" song "Are You the One?" and was included in his solo project track "Average." "Italian Girls is a girl who plays with children."

Den Adel performed the song "Beyond Me" on the album Prison of Desire, collaborating with After Forever within the symphonic metal scene, performing the song live with the band at select concerts. She appeared on the track "No Completion" for Delain's album Lucidity, as well as appearing in the band's select live performances of the song. Den Adel was one of the invited guests for Tarja Turunen's version of Feliz Navidad, which featured a mix of names from the heavy metal scene and was released as a benefit single.

Den Adel co-wrote and recorded the vocals on Armin van Buuren's 2008 trance album Imagine, which received awards for their "Best Progressive House/Trance Track" and "Best Video" on the International Dance Music Awards, as well as other musical genres. They performed a special version of the song with the Metropole Orchestra at the 2010 Golden Harp gala ceremony, where van Buuren was praised for his musical performances. Den Adel appeared at the Night of the Proms in 2009 for the ninth time. Deneer Konijn appeared on a Belgian radio station's fundraising effort to raise funds for children performing the chorus of the song het Meneer Konijn lied among other Belgian stars. The song debuted on Belgian charts later this year. den Adel joined Dutch rapper Ali B on the track "Hier" in 2014.

Sharon was asked by American rock band Evanescence to perform with them on their album "Use My Voice" in 2020. The bandleader Amy Lee, Taylor Momsen, Deena Jakoub, and several others joined in on the project, including rock vocalist Lzzy Hale, Taylor Momsen, Deena Jakoub, and many others, as well as Lindsey Stirling.
