Charlotte Wessels Life

Johanna Charlotte Wessels (born 13 May 1987) is a Dutch singer-songwriter who was born in Zwolle, Netherlands.

She is best known as the lead vocalist for the Dutch symphonic metal band Delain.

She is also in the heavy metal band Phantasma.

Personal life

She is a cousin of Dutch hardcore DJ DaY-már. Wessels has an art history degree and also has a master's degree in gender studies. She is a vegan. She considers herself a feminist and she doesn't like the female-fronted metal term: "It's just really weird that the gender of one person in the band defines what kind of music you make! I think that it's one of the things that really indicates that the bias is still there."

In September 2017, Charlotte revealed that she married her partner of twelve years.

Charlotte Wessels Career

Career

Around the age of fifteen or sixteen, she formed To Elysium, a gothic metal band. In an interview, she claims that her parents had to sign a deal because she was still underage.

Wessels first became involved with Delain in 2004 when she met Martijn Westerholt, formerly of Within Temptation, while On Temptation. Westerholt wondered if she should write some lyrics and sing, since the band was supposed to be purely a studio project. It was expected to be a one-time thing, according to her. They signed a contract with Roadrunner Records in 2005. She was the band's lead vocalist and primary lyricist.

Delain formed as a solo musical project of Martijn Westerholt in February 2021, as well as a announcing that she would launch a solo career. In Wessels' post about her resignation, she wished the other former members and fans well:

In May 2021, she reflected on her demise from Delain in February, saying she was grateful that she could work with the other musicians in the band.

Wessels, joined by Georg Neuhauser of Serenity and Oliver Philipps from Everon, formed Phantasma, a symphonic rock band. They were signed to Napalm Records and put out a concept album titled The Deviant Hearts. Wessels did not only sing on the album, she also wrote The Deviant Hearts specifically for it. The novella was included in the album's physical release.

Wessels released "Lizzie," an album that stars Alissa White-Gluz as part of a collaboration in August 2020.

Wessels had released "Soft Revolution," her first single after her departure from Delain, which was Song of the Month in January 2021. Wessels announced a cover of Gerard McMahon's "Cry Little Sister," a song included in the 1987 film The Lost Boys. "Superhuman" was released on June 30th, 2021, she appeared on a music video.

Wessels unveiled the name of her debut studio album, Tales From Six Feet Under, a collection of several genres ranging from indie pop to synth-infused rock on June 1, 2021. It was published on September 17th, 2021. Both of the songs were recorded in her home studio, where she wrote, mastered, and performed all of the instruments on the record.

Following the debut of her solo album, she released her latest song, "Tonight," on November 25, 2021.

Wessels' second studio album, Tales from Six Feet Under, Vol. 2, was released on June 28, 2022. The II, which will be published on October 7, 2022, will be released on October 7th.
