Career

Shanna Moakler, a 17-year-old girl from Rhode Island, competed for Rhode Island in the Miss Teen USA 1992 pageant. She came in third in the preliminary examinations, sixth in the interview segment, and fifth in the swimsuit competition (scoring 9.115, 9.279, and 9.087 respectively). Moakler made it to the semi-finals and placed seventh overall. For 1993, Moakler captured the Miss Teen All American title.

In 1995, Moakler was named Miss New York USA and represented New York in the Miss USA pageant, which was held in South Padre Island, Texas. In the preliminaries and all of the interview and swimsuit divisions, Moakler came in second, with scores of 9.06, 9.62, and 9.61 respectively, and first in the evening gown competition, with a score of 9.86. Overall, Moakler was the first runner-up in the Miss USA Pageant. In May 1995, Moakler, at the age of 20, was named Miss Universe in the Bahamas.

Some aspects of her tenure as Miss USA, such as celebrity pool tournaments, were enjoyed by Moakler. She has also claimed that the experience made her "sign autographs at places like Bob's Home Furnishing Rentals." She was also required to live with a pageant chaperone who made sure she dressed and behaved appropriately.

By appearing in a public service announcement assisting attempts to reverse the results of California's Protest 8 case, Moakler reacted to the 2009 Miss USA gay marriage controversy by expressing support for efforts to reverse the decision. Following allegations that Miss California USA Carrie Prejean had posed for risqué photographs and breached the terms of her employment, Donald Trump ruled there was no breach and therefore refused to strip Prejean of her crown. On May 13, 2009, Moakler resigned as co-director of the pageant, saying, "I cannot move forward supporting and promoting the Miss Universe Organization when I no longer believe in it or the terms I signed committing myself as a youth." However, it was revealed on November 13, 2009, that Moakler had returned to the Miss California USA corporation, about the same time Carrie Prejean was dethroned.

In 2008, Moakler ran a pro-veterarianism commercial for PETA, and she stood nominated for a PETA anti-fur campaign, claiming that fur coats will not be given as prizes as long as she is the director of Miss Nevada.

Moakler began modeling at the age of 15. She appeared in several publications, including Cosmopolitan and Brentwood. She has worked with Playboy since January 2001, and has been named Playmate of the Month for the month. She has confessed that posing nude was "a little scary at first." According to Moakler's Playmate data sheet, she was a 34" bust, 24" waist, 34" hips, 5 foot 8 inches (1.73 m) tall and 117 pounds. She appeared in a Cutty Sark campaign shot by David LaChapelle later in life.

Moakler began her television career in 1996 with appearances on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Due South. Lisa in Friends 'Til the End, a 1997 NBC film starring Shannen Doherty, has since appeared in Friends 'Til the End.' Allison Kendall appeared in a Timecop episode in 1998.

Moakler was a regular on the television show Pacific Blue beginning in 1998. A team of police officers who surveyed Santa Monica, California, on bicycles was included in the USA Network series. Officer Monica Harper, who appeared as the trouble maker rookie in seasons four and five, was dubbed the troublemaker rookie. Even though she was riding a $5,000 Trek bike, she was nevertheless risky on the set, claiming that when the cast had to "crash into each other like idiots and end up in a massive ball of arms and legs."

On Search Party, a game show on the E! Moakler was a celebrity contestant. It's a network. The show was shot at exotic beach resort locations and required contestants to team up for athletic tournaments and scathing hunts. Moakler appeared in three episodes from 1999 to 2000.

Moakler appeared on Punk'd in 2003 to help Ashton Kutcher and his crew set up her then-boyfriend Travis Barker. Although the couple were on a romantic date at a local restaurant, they smacked Barker by having a waiter overachieve too much with Moakler. The episode first aired on November 30, 2003.

On the television show Joey, in 2005, Moakler made a guest appearance as Mariska, starring Matt LeBlanc, and she also appeared as Josie on the show Jake in Progress, starring John Stamos. Moakler and her then-husband Barker appeared in Meet the Barkers, a reality television program that premiered on April 6, 2005. The former couple were followed through their daily lives on the series. When the couple first met together, it included both their marriage and their lives as a family. The show lasted for two seasons until February 2006.

In an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation titled "Poppin' Tags," which first aired on April 13, 2006, Moakler and Barker appeared together. Barker played J-Lady, while Barker played a rapper in a feud with a rival rap artist. On the same episode, Method Man also appeared. Moakler appeared on ABC's Dancing with the Stars' third season, which premiered on September 12, 2006. In week two, she was eliminated. She appeared on several television shows, including HBO's Entourage, Telemundo's Mas Vale Tarde, and as hostess for The Mother of All Pageants. This particular display focused on mother and daughter teams who competed for $100,000. Moakler was the Last Beauty Standing among ten contestants on NBC's Minute to Win It (aka The Last Beauty Standing) for 120th episodes, and she was the top winner with $100,000 for her charity.

In 2014, Moakler was one of the celebrity judges to choose a new, and second only male model for the long-running television game show The Price is Correct. Other judges included show producer Mike Richards and the show's first male model Robert Scott Wilson.

Moakler was appointed as a HouseGuest on the third season of Celebrity Big Brother, in which she placed seventh out of eleven in 2022.

In 1997, Moakler appeared in Poison Ivy: The New Seduction. Cheryl Tangeray in Telling You appeared in the role for the following year. During the final scene of the 1998 film The Wedding Singer, Moakler was then cast as an air-flight hostess. In 1999, she appeared as Tawny in the film Love Stinks. She appeared in Critical Mass in 2000 and Pauly Shore Is Dead in 2003. Seeing Other People in 2004 as Kasey and the part of Petra in Big Momma's House 2, which was released in 2006, were among other film appearances. On VH1's I Love the New Millennium, she appeared as herself.
