Samia Nkrumah Life

Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah (born 23 June 1960) is a Ghanaian politician and chairperson of the Convention People's Party (CPP).

She won the Jomoro constituency seat at her first attempt in the 2008 parliamentary election.

She is the niece of Ghana's first President, Kwame Nkrumah.

Early life and education

Samia was born in 1960 in Aburi, Ghana's Eastern Region. On the day of the 1966 military coup that overthrew Kwame Nkrumah, she was forced to leave Ghana with her mother and brothers. The Egyptian government had resettled the family in Egypt. She and her family returned to Achimota School in 1975 at the invitation of GC Acheampong's National Redemption Council government, which was headed by her mother. Nonetheless, she left Egypt again after her mother decided to return to Egypt in the early 1980s. Samia moved to London, finishing her studies at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies, where she obtained a Bachelor's Degree in 1991. In 1993, she obtained a Master's degree from the same university.

Personal life

Samia is Ghana's second child and Fathia Nkrumah. Kwame Nkrumah was Ghana's first Prime Minister and President, and he led the Gold Coast to independence from Britain in 1957.

Nkrumah, a founding member of the Organisation of African Unity and winner of the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union in 1962, was a leading advocate of pan-Africanism.

Gamal Nkrumah, Sekou Nkrumah, and Samia's two brothers are brothers. Professor Francis Nkrumah, a retired lecturer and pediatrician who worked as a director at the Nomurchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research in Legon, Ghana, has also been a mentor.

After her father was deposed in Ghana's first successful military coup d'état on February 24, 1966, Samia, her mother, and her brothers had to flee Egypt on a plane sent by Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser to remain in the country while her father went into exile in Guinea.

Michele Melega, an Italian-Danish man, is married to her Italian-Danish woman. Kwame Thomas Melega's son is a student at the University of Kwame Thomas Melega. Samia is an Arabic, Italian, Danish, and English speaker. She has worked as a journalist and media consultant, as well as in the Egyptian media industry. She is also an advocate for child rights, women's rights, and women's affairs.
