Mark Sanford Life

Marshall Clement "Mark" Sanford Jr. (born May 28, 1960) is an American politician and author.

Sanford, a Republican governor of South Carolina and a former member of the United States House of Representatives, is a former governor of South Carolina and a former member of the Senate. From 1995 to 2001, Sanford served as the United States representative for South Carolina's 1st congressional district.

He won the 2002 South Carolina gubernatorial election, defeating Democratic incumbent Jim Hodges.

Sanford served as Governor of South Carolina from 2003 to 2011.

As Governor, he attempted to withhold $700 million in stimulus funds for South Carolina from the federal Recovery Act passed in 2009; however, the South Carolina Supreme Court found that only the state legislature, not the governor, had the power to approve or decline the stimulus funds. Sanford revealed in June 2009 that he had been involved in an extramarital affair after having been absent from the state for several days.

Sanford had led his employees to believe he was going hiking on the Appalachian Trail but in Argentina, he went to visit his mistress.

Although the scandal dominated national television, resulted in his censure by the South Carolina General Assembly, which culminated in his resignation as chair of the Republican Governors Association, Sanford served out his second term as governor. In a special election in 2013 for his old seat, Sanford fought for Congress again.

He ran for office in the first place and served in Congress from 2013 to 2019.

In a Republican primary, he lost his 2018 re-election bid.

Sanford declared in September 2019 that he would run for the Republican nomination in the 2020 United States presidential election.

On November 12, 2019, he dropped out of the competition.

In the Boy Scouts of America, Sanford earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Sanford earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in business from Furman University in 1983 and a Master of Business Administration degree from Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia in 1988.

In November 1989, Sanford married Jenny Sullivan. The couple had four sons.

In 1992, Sanford Real Estate Investment, a leasing and brokerage firm, was established by Norton and Sanford Real Estate Investment.

Disgraced ex-South Carolina governor who was caught cheating on his wife says Trump is a bully who is obsessed with not being seen as a loser - and would need a 'frontal LOBOTOMY' to put what's best for the republic first

www.dailymail.co.uk, December 23, 2023
Mark Sanford, 63, confessed to having a relationship with an Argentina journalist in 2009, resulting in a divorce for his wife Jenny Sanford. He considered stepping down as governor at the time, but said he wanted to take responsibility for his actions and lead by example to his four sons. Sanford has now slammed Trump, who has said he doubted that the former president would ever considered running again. According to The New York Times, "for him to think about what's best for the republic would mean having a frontal lobotomy."
