Ross Thomas Life

Ross Thomas, 1926 in Oklahoma City (December 18, 1995 in Santa Monica, California), was an American writer of crime fiction.

He is best known for his witty thrillers that reveal the principles of career politics.

Under the pseudonym Oliver Bleeck's name, he wrote several books about Philip St. Ives' professional relationship. During World War II, Thomas served in the Philippines with the infantry.

Before becoming a writer, he worked as a public relations consultant, union spokesman, and political strategist in the United States, Bonn (Germany), and Nigeria.

The 1985 Edgar Award for Best Novel winner, Briarpatch, was given to him.

He was named with the inaugural Gumshoe Lifetime Achievement Award in 2002, becoming one of only two writers to receive the award posthumously (the other was 87th Precinct author Ed McBain in 2006). Mr. Thomas wrote Jimmy the Rumour, an original screenplay for producer Robert Evans in addition to his books.

The project is about a man born without an identity who works as a thief looting from other robbers. He died of lung cancer in Santa Monica, California, two months before his 70th birthday.
