Rolf Jacobsen Career

Early career

Jord og jern, a writer in free verse, introduced the urban world, racing cars, planes, and electric turbines in Jacobsen's Jord og jern. Jacobsen's work was linked to Marinetti and Futurism due to his subjects' choice, but his interpretation was anything but romantic. He did not promote modern inventions, the elegance of "a roaring motorcycle, which operates like a machine gun," but did not discuss machine-human civilization. Jacobsen's diverse literary and artistic influences included Poetic Edda, Karel apek's play R.U.R., and Carl Sandburg's poetry. Nature and technology are also represented in the collection's name, which suggests a cyclical relationship.

Jacobsen returned to snes in 1934 to care for his father. He had joined Clarté, a centrist intellectual group, and he became a member of the Hedmark County Labor Party's leadership. Jacobsen worked for the daily newspaper Kongsvinger Arbeiderblad, which was funded by Labour. Vrimmel (1935), Jacobsen's second collection of poems, expressed his dissatisfaction with modern life. Jacobsen's remark: "We want to triumph war," Marinetti's declaration, but we foresee the emergence of the gas masks and machine guns. After Vrimmel, Jacobsen remained sluggish as a poet for 16 years.
