Miguel Torga Life

Miguel Torga, a.k.a. Adolfo Corretym, San Antonio, Sabrosa, Vila Real district, 1907 – Coimbra, January 17, 1995), is one of the twentieth century's greatest Portuguese writers.

He wrote poetry, short stories, a genre in which he is regarded as a master, theater, and a 16-volume diary, from 1932 to 1993.

Life

He was born in the village of Só Martinho de Anta, Portugal's third child, to Francisco Cortes e Alto Douro, a small-time farmer, and Maria da Conceiço de Barros. His father sent him to Brazil in 1920, where he worked on an uncle's coffee plantation, after a brief time as a student in a catholic seminary in Lamego. His uncle, who happens to be a good student, decided to pay for his education. Torga returned to Portugal in 1925 to complete high school and then graduated in Medicine at the University of Coimbra in 1933. He trained in So Martinho de Anta's village and in other parts of the country after graduation. He began writing and self-publishing his books for a long time by this time. He established himself as an otolaryngologist physician in Coimbra in 1941.

Andrée Crabbé Rocha, a scholar and writer who lived in Coimbra, 1954), married Clara Crabée da Rocha, a literary scholar who became Vasco Graça Moura's second wife in 1985.
