Robin Tunney (born June 19, 1972) is an American actress.

Teresa Lisbon, a television actress, is best known for her portrayal of Veronica Donovan on the first two seasons of Prison Break (2005–2006).

Tunney made her film debut in Encino Man, a 1992 comedy.

She rose to fame with her leading roles in the cult films Empire Records (1995) and The Craft (1996).

She received the Volpi Award for Best Actress, as well as Gotham and Independent Spirit awards for her appearance in Niagara, Niagara (1997).

She appeared in End of Days (1999), Supernova and Vertical Limitation (both 2000).

In 2006, she received critical acclaim for her portrayal of a sexual assault survivor in the independent drama Open Window.

Cherish, The In-Laws (2003), Hollywoodland (2006), August, The Burning Plain (both 2008), Passenger Side (2009), and Looking Glass (2018) are among her many film appearances.

Early life

Tunney was born in Chicago, Illinois, to Patrick, a car salesman father, and Cathy, a bartender mother. Tunney's father was born in Straide, County Mayo, Ireland, but her maternal grandparents came from Clare Island. She is a cousin of Chicago Alderman Tom Tunney.

Tunney grew up in Orland Park, a southwest suburb of Chicago. She was raised Catholic (of Irish descent), attended Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago and the Chicago Academy for the Performing Arts in Chicago, and then moved to Palos Heights, Chicago, which is also in the Chicago area.

Personal life

Tunney married producer and director Bob Gosse on October 4, 1997, and they divorced in 2006. Tunney worked with Australian writer and director Andrew Dominik from 2009 to 2010. Tunney became engaged to Nicky Marmet while on vacation in Rio de Janeiro on December 25, 2012. They have two children.

Tunney moved to Los Angeles and appeared in dozens of films including Law & Order, Dream On, and Life Goes On. She appeared in the film Empire Records, which was released in 1995 and angered critics and audiences alike. Tunney's success in Sarah Bailey's role in The Craft, a horror-fantasy film in which she appeared alongside Fairuza Balk, Neve Campbell, and Rachel True. The film was a commercial success, grossing $55 million against a budget of $15 million. She developed the independent film Niagara, Niagara, which was released in 1997 and gained critical acclaim; she was named Best Actress at the 1997 Venice International Film Festival. In the 1999 supernatural action film End of Days, she appeared opposite Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Tunney appeared in the 2004 pilot episode of the medical drama series House as a kindergarten teacher with an aphasic disorder. Veronica Donovan appeared on the first season of Prison Break, which was released in 2005 to critical acclaim. Tunney appeared in Closing the Ring in 2007. She appeared on Teresa Lisbon on the television series The Mentalist, a role that she played for seven years. She produced Looking Glass, a thriller film starring Nicolas Cage, in 2018, which was not well-received, though her role deserved praise. She appeared in The Fix, a short-lived legal drama series.

Tunney won her table in the eighth tournament series of Bravo's Celebrity Poker Showdown on June 28, 2006, progressing to the final table. On July 5, 2006, she finished second to Jason Alexander while raising $200,000 for her charity of choice, The Children's Health Fund.
