Rico Rene Granados Blanco (born March 17, 1973) is a Filipino singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, video composer, actor, endorser, and entrepreneur.

He began his career as one of the founding members of the Filipino rock band Rivermaya from 1994 to 2007, and has been a solo artist since 2008. Blanco's music and appearances earned him fame and critical acclaim, earning him a reputation as one of the Philippines' most well-known local music icons.

Many music critics are unanimously rated him as one of the country's best songwriters.

Early life

Rico Blanco was born on March 17, 1973, in Ermita, Philippines, to Rene Aldeguer Blanco of Iloilo City and Purita Crisostomo Granados Leyte. Blanco grew up in San Pedro, Laguna. Blanco attended an O.C. grade school. B. Montessori Center, high school at Benedictine Abbey (now San Beda College Alabang) and college at Ateneo de Manila University with a degree in AB Management Economics, where he was once a classmate of Kris Aquino. Rico was an A-student and was accelerated twice in grade school. He was once a Sangguniang Kabataan chairman.

Rico Blanco Career

Early career

Rico was one of the founding members of the Filipino rock band Rivermaya, performing as both singer, keyboardist, guitarist, and main songwriter from 1994 to 2007.

Rico Blanco is also a stage, film, and television actor. He appeared in ABS-CBN's Imortal with John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin, as well as May Isang Pangarap with Carmina Villaroel and Vina Morales. He appeared in the Music Museum and Joey Ayala's 1970s Bistro production of Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as Epy Quizon and Christopher de Leon in the independent film Nasaan si Francis? He also produced several music videos and was nominated for his efforts as an advertising musical arranger. Blanco also dabbles in painting and photography.

Blanco's Project 11–41, Sugarfree's Sa Wakas, The Dawn's Salamat (Millennium Edition single), Teeth's I Was a Teenage Tree, and Rivermaya's Free album, which earned him an NU Rock award for Producer of the year, are among the albums released. Blanco has also appeared on MYX Live. He has also arranged scores for several commercials and other corporate functions throughout the Philippines.

Blanco resigned from Rivermaya in May 2007. His last performance with Rivermaya was on May 4, 2007, at the Metro Bar (where two other top Filipino bands, Pupil and Sandwich, opened the show, which featured two other Filipino bands, Eraserheads, a legendary pop-rock band). It was coincidental that Rico's first gig as a guitarist for Rivermaya took place at the Metro Bar (formerly known as "Kampo"). Moreover, the first ever Rivermaya gig (where Blanco was keyboardist) was held in Las Pias in 1993, when the band was the first act for Eraserheads.

Human, a clothing brand in the Philippines, launched a clothing brand in 2007. Blanco's album "Control" was also written and produced by the musician. Rico Blanco appeared in the Filipino dubbed version of the anime series BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad in the same year.

Solo career

Warner Music Philippines' first single "Yugto," a Filipino musician, debuted in the Filipino music market as a soloist, on June 12, 2008. It's immediately regarded as a "neo-epic" by critics and music enthusiasts. Among the four major Awit awards, the song received a number of accolades, including Song of the Year. On August 8, 2008, his first album, titled Your Universe, was released. The 10-track CD is a unique mash-up of diverse sounds, including ethno-rock "Your Universe," the heart-tugging title track "Your Universe," the sweet, Pinoy-folk "Para Hindi Ka Mawala," and the sing-along anthem "Antukin." The infusion of synthesizer and electronic parts throughout the album shows his return to his roots as a keyboard player. Warner Music Philippines is also known for disbanding bands and converting their respective lead singers and turning them into soloists.

Rico's live band featured Robert de la Cruz (formerly of Queso and Skychurch) on drums and Ricci Gurango (formerly of Hungry Young Poets and Mojofly) on bass, while Rico plays guitars and keyboards. Many other session musicians appear on stage from time to time.

Blanco received the "Vocalist of the Year" award in the NU Rock Awards in November 2008. He was named "OPM Solo Artist of the Year" in December 2008, the year's best RX93.1 "OPM Solo Artist of the Year" on December 2008. He opened for Myx Mo 2008 and appeared on "Yugto." Other than his band, The Mandaluyong Children's Choir, Manila Symphony Orchestra, Kulintangan musicians (headed by Malou Matute), and a number of Percussionists (headed by Iggy de Dios) performed with him. The opening set was considered to be the largest in the event's history.

In February 2009, he was named "Best New Artist" in the MYX Music Awards 2009. Blanco, then, was chosen by Unilever Philippines to re-write and perform a version of Close Up toothpaste's regional campaign song. "Come Closer" was a single released by Unilever Philippines.

Blanco released his new music video for the single "Ayuz" in December 2009, honoring Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire as the special guest, with Cristine Reyes as the special guest.

Blanco appeared on ABS-CBN's supernatural-political thriller TV series Imortal, starring John Lloyd Cruz and Angel Locsin, Blanco performed the song "Kahit Walang Sabihin" for the adopted TV series in May 2010. Following this, Rico Blanco's very own firm, Balcony Entertainment, was established in cooperation with Warner Music Philippines.

Rico Blanco's first album "Your Universe" debuted in other Asian countries such as Singapore and Hong Kong earlier this year. The Asian release of "Neon Lights" a new single; the song quickly rose to the top of Hong Kong charts, defeating Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne, Wonder Girls, and Mika.

Rico Blanco Collaborated with PLDT-SME in June 10, 2010 with Arnel Pineda under the name "Bossing Ako." And was launched in NBC Tent at the Fort, Taguig City, as an anthem for entrepreneurs and would-be entrepreneurs.

Blanco co-wrote the song "Chemistry" with Solenn Heussaff for the latter's self-titled debut album in the same year.

Blanco released Amats, a new single that is available for digital download via iTunes in 2012. The single was taken from his second studio album, Galactik Fiestamatik, which was released on July 10, 2012.

Rico Blanco signed with Universal Records on October 6, 2015. Rico will debut his album in November, and fellow singers Roll Martinez, Buddy Zabala & Raimund Marasigan will help with Rico's recording.

Rico released a Lyric Video on his latest carry single "Videoke Queen" on November 11, 2015. Blanco's third album, Dating Gawi, was released on November 27, 2015. In Magic 89.9's Top Songs for 2016, his single "Wag Mong Aminin" was the top one hit on the OPM chart for 2016.

Following Perf de Castro's appearance at 19 East, Taguig City, he reunited with his former Rivermaya co-members, Perf de Castro, Nathan Azarcon, and Mark Escueta for a "unknown mini-reunion" on January 9, 2016.

Rico created "Nagbabalik" with IV of Spades on July 3, 2019 and a Music Video was released in July 15, 2019.

"Your Universe" was released in Vinyl Format on July 28, 2019.

In May 1, 2020, the first of May 1, 2020. Rico's latest album, "This Is Too Shall Pass," was released. In the Covid 19 pandemic, the message was sent to those who need light and love. On May 17, 2020, a music video was released.

"Happy Feeling" was released by Rico on August 25, 2020. On December 11, 2020, a Music Video was released.

Imperial Blue Whisky unveiled a commercial on May 27, 2021, in honor of summer's past. Rico Blanco sang "Alaala" in honor of the summer's past. On June 15, 2021, a new century was born. On his YouTube channel, he posted a music video of the song "Alaala" (which was shot 6 years ago).

On August 23, 2021, a new century came to an end. Rico Blanco will record the late Jamir Garcia's posthumously solo debut album. On September 5, 2021, we first saw the single "Paraiso" released.

Rico's new cover version of "Pinoy Ako" for Pinoy Big Brother: Kumunity Season 10, the 10th season of the Philippine reality show Pinoy Big Brother, "Pinoy Tayo," appeared on September 14-2021. In February 7, 2022, the first music video was released.
