Richard Reid Life

Richard Colvin Reid (born 12 August 1973), also known as the Shoe Bomber, is a British terrorist who attempted to detonate an explosive unit packed into his shoes while on American Airlines Flight 63 from Paris to Miami in 2001. Reid converted to Islam as a young man in jail after being born to a father who was a violent criminal. Later, he became radicalized and went to Pakistan and Afghanistan, where he trained and became an al-leader. He boarded American Airlines Flight 63 between Paris and Miami on December 22, 2001, carrying shoes packed with explosives, which he unsuccessfully attempted to detonate. *Passengers subpoenaed the pilot on the plane, which landed at Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, the nearest US airport. * He was arrested and charged with a drug. Reid pleaded guilty in federal court to eight federal criminal charges of terrorism in 2002, based on his attempt to destroy a commercial aircraft in flight. He was sentenced to three life terms plus 110 years in jail without parole and is now detained at ADX Florence, Colorado's highest security jail.
