Calocane was given an indefinite hospital order for the manslaughter of three people in Nottingham last year - and the Court of Appeal in London today refused to change the sentence. The paranoid schizophrenic 'brutally' stabbed to death students Barney Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, both 19, and school caretaker Ian Coates, 65, in the early hours of June 13 last year. His victims' families wanted him put on trial for murder but in January this year Nottingham Crown Court accepted his guilty plea to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility. In a statement following the appeal court's decision, Barney's mother Emma Webber today said the families 'now face their own life sentence' of ensuring Calocane is not released.

According to MAE WEST, no of my seven siblings was closer to me than my elder sister Heather, who died shortly after her 16th birthday. I had no idea what had happened to her before the cops knocked on our door in February 1994 and started digging up the garden. A human femur bone was discovered in the necleus. And another. I knew it was Heather right away in my heart. Nothing seemed real; I couldn't even cry. I sat on the sofa next to Mum, who was also mute, as if she simply couldn't take in the enormity of it all. The bodies of ten more women and a child were eventually discovered by the police. The majority of people were in our garden or buried in our home's basement, which would shortly be known as the House of Horrors. My father, Fred West, was in jail, admitting to his horrific crimes but insisting that his wife Rose had nothing to do with them.
